Do you have a set amount or will you spend whatever depending on what you find?

@Mrs. Pen: Like when I'm taking them or to give them to spend at the mall when they're like a preteen?

hmm maybe like 200 at the most, haha I will teach them to bargain shop! but I really enjoyed back to school shopping with my mom when I was a teen so I def want to make it a fun experience without going broke!

When I was growing up, my mom gave each kid $150-$200 for school clothes. She had 5 kids! So, this was a lot of money for them to spend all at one time.
However, we were always able to get everything we needed (at least one pair of shoes, some jeans, a jacket, shirts, etc.) within that price range. We shopped the crazy sales at Macy's (it was then the Bon Marche) and JC Penney.
At this point, I have no idea how much I will give them. I don't think I will set a budget... I will just buy them what they need. I don't know what kind of financial position we will be in by the time our kids are in school.

hm. I think I would try to stick around $100 or $150 max. Given that I'm sure they will get new clothes for Christmas.
Knowing what I know about bargain shopping I'm confident they can get at least 7-8 articles of clothing with that. Which I think is more than enough unless they hit a huge growth spurt.
ETA: Growing up I never did the back to school big shopping spree. It's such an American concept....so our kid will get more than I ever did!

This year for my oldest we had to buy uniforms (polo shirts and non cargo pants) so his budget was a little higher because we didn't have any of that.
My twins I let them pick out a new shirt for their first day of preschool. Right now they have plenty of clothes in their size.
They also got to pick out a lunch box and backpack. (Toy r us had a great sale where you bought the backpack and got the lunch box free, yeah!)
As they grow older I am sure this will change but I think the budget will always depend on what is needed at the time. I know I will always let them pick out one new first day outfit.

Probably around 250. I got 150 when i was growing up and it just wasnt enough to get everything I needed.

I don't know.... it will depend how much money we have at that time. But I see myself going with her and trying to find bargains, so it won't be a set amount.

It was always just based on what we needed growing up. Supplies more than clothes. I imagine it will be the same for our kids.

We just got what we needed and when we found good sales when we grew up. We never really did any specific back to school shopping for clothes, maybe got one thing if it was really needed. So we'll probably do the same thing.

Once DD is in her teens, DH wants her to save her allowance for clothes. We'll buy the expensive stuff, like winter boots, but he thinks she should learn to buy the rest on her own (which he thinks she'll want to do). It's how he grew up.
But I honestly do not think this is possible because 1) I'm a super sale shopper and will bring up DD the same way, so we'll likely pick up a few pieces here and there throughout the year and 2) my mom. DD is her only grandchild and she absolutely loves shopping for her. If this continues, DD will hardly have any clothes to shop for.

Our kids will be in uniforms so will just have to buy bigger sizes every year. We don't spend much on clothes since the grandparents do most of the clothes shopping for us.
I'm sure this won't change as long as they're alive.

I spend waaaay too much on my kids clothes. I hope that it stops one day. But I consider it my hobby. Ha! No jokes.
So like...this year, I spent like $600 on each for fall clothes. Not including shoes or outerwear.
