I met with my RE in May, did three rounds of IUI's over the summer and then ultimately began IVF in November. They put me on birth control in October to quiet my ovaries and then I started my meds in November. If you know that you are going to start IVF, I would imagine one month on BCP and then into IVF. But, it also depends upon when they have room to have you stim as they typically only have so many woman go per cycle. Although, it really depends on your clinic. I would hope within a few months you could start. Be sure to check the old IVF med posts for ways to save $$ on meds. I was able to save at least a thousand or two based upon them and how I ordered what i needed. Good luck!!

I know with IF, you have been waiting so long so you hope the process is quick to IVF. That stupid IF waiting game.

If you are seeing a new RE, they might want to do their own work up. Tests... Like blood work, HSG/SHG, Clomid challenge, etc.

After our failed IUIs at the first clinic, I switched to another clinic and was hoping IVF was our next step. I gave them all my medical records and they felt like there were some things that my first clinic didn't do. So we did those tests, they ended up diagnosing me (I was unknown IF before) and put me on meds. Then they felt like IUIs could work so we tried a couple rounds of IUIs. So they didn't work, so after a couple months we started IVF process. That in itself requires STD/HIV testing for both of us. I think there was some additional paperwork (legal) then they wouldn't start the IVF procedures until it was paid in full (so that takes time). We had stock that we cashed to pay for IVF so I was lucky in that I didn't have a long wait.

Oh, my RE prefers to do the embryo retrival separate from the transfer so that took about 3 months (one month break in between).

So unfortunately it might be a while. But I am so happy I switched clinics. The new clinic didn't treat me as a number and really cared about figuring out why my IUIs didn't work. I think the eventual diagnosis really motivated and kept me positive through the on-going process at the new RE.

I would highly recommend accupuncture. While it didn't help me get pregnant on it's own, it did help me reduce the worry and the anxiety through the IF process.

@petunia: Keep your good silly attitude! Its the only way to get through it. And I also stopped at 2 IUIs. Although some choose to do more. Just do what feels right for you.

I think 2-3 months. I remember wanting it to be immediately but hey have to calendar it, wait fora new cycle and then it's often the cycle after that.
