DH has a work banquet that we go to every year - my mom usually comes up and watches the kids overnight for us but she cant next year - so I need a babysitter for about 18 hours..... we pay our sitter $15 an hour so that would be $270 - umm, no!
I was thinking about asking her if she would do it for XX amount of money - what would you offer? (considering kids sleep from 7-8pm until 6-7am)

I used to babysit for the weekend with some kids in high school. I think I would get like maybe $100 for one night and maybe $200 for the whole weekend.

@Mamaof2: Also maybe factor in leaving her some gas money and money for an activity or pizza.

@blackbird: oh I didn't even think of that! DSS (21 yrs old) lives with us but I don't think he would do well with bath and bed time - I could have the sitter leave after the kids are in bed and then come back in the morning!

@Mamaof2: That's a good idea as long as he's agreeable to it and trustworthy.
I used to babysit overnight on occasion and I would usually charge about half my usual rate for the time when I was asleep. We usually figured out a flat rate ahead of time. One family offered to pay me for waking hours and zero for the overnight part and I had to decline... I like my own bed and knew I wouldn't sleep very well in an unfamiliar house, listening for the kids on the monitor. I think we settled on $50 or 60 for the overnight part? Something like that. I think in your shoes I'd see if she'd be willing to do it for $150-175.

@Mamaof2: I babysat overnight as a teenager and usually accepted a flat rate. Since I got alone chill out time around 7-8pm which I never got in my family of eight, I loved staying overnight! I do like the idea of having the babysitter put them to bed and then have someone else stay.
But maybe you could offer either to the babysitter and see what she thinks?

I did this too in college and I think I got $270 for a whole weekend. But it looks like you can work with your family and a babysitter hybrid.

I think a flat rate is a good idea. I used to nanny and did a few overnight stays from time to time and just charged a flat rate... I think it was about 100 from 8 am to 8 pm and then added the regular babysitting rate for the hours before and after (but this was 10 years ago, so I'm not sure what the going rates would be).
