@spaniellove: I wish I had advice or could console you. This really, really, majorly stinks. Like you need any more trials of your patience. Thinking the best for you and just try to know that this *will* get resolved.
@kentuckygirl: So sorry you are waylaid too. I found my RE through my Ob/Gyn, but I also think that an infertility support group might be a good resource for this. Are there any in your area?
@ineebee: Great follicle growth! I love strawberries and peaches. In fact, I was a strawberry farmer at one point in my life!

@spaniellove: ugh I'm so sorry, that's so unfair. I hope you only need to take this one cycle off and you're back at it next cycle. Big hugs to you!

@raintreebee:@kentuckygirl: Thanks for checking in with me. The appointment went really well. It was 2.5 hours long and I felt that she was really thorough. I updated my other thread with all the details so that I'm not taking up space here.
@spaniellove: I am so sorry about all the challenges that keep popping up for you. Hopefully they can get things all sorted and you will be ready to move on to treatment next cycle.

Just got back from my second u/s, and little follie, who was already ahead of schedule, has matured nicely. And for the first time, I have a second follicle that could also be mature enough in a couple days. I'm scheduled for IUI #3 on Friday.
On a totally separate note, DH said something very interesting to me this morning. He said that he's starting to consider adoption, regardless of whether we can have biological kids. We happened to randomly come across some ads for foster parenting and adoption over the weekend, and I guess he's been thinking about it. In any case, for some reason, this strangely made me feel... free! Like a burden had been lifted. I've always been open to adoption, but until now, he hadn't. If anything, this takes some pressure off of all this IF stuff, and I'm happy about that.
How's everyone doing today?
grapefruit / 4703 posts
@ineebee: yay for two (!!) follies! And I totally get the lifting of the burden thing. We've been talking a little more about adoption lately as well, which DH used to say was off the table.

@ineebee: That is great news! It's just nice knowing tha tyou have options, right?!

@ineebee: Woo Hoo! We're almost cycle buddies. I'm not doing an IUI but TI. I went in for my ultrasound this AM and I had one huge follie ready to go and one smaller one that could go as well, so the doc decided to give me my trigger shot. It's BD time now

@ineebee: Yay! Awesome news, and that sounds like such a relief to know it will all work out one way or another!

Thanks, everyone! I'm feeling a little more optimistic about this cycle than I did a week ago. I got the call back from my nurse and apparently my LH is really high. So they said to skip the trigger shot (DH will be SO happy not to have to do it!) and schedule the IUI for tomorrow (not Friday)!
@thereeldeal: So does that mean you're ovulating tomorrow too?? We really are cycle buddies! High-five!

In mulling things over last night, I suddenly realized that my clinic might have scheduled the SHG thinking I was still planning on doing IVF. The nurse who called to set it up sounded confused when she asked if this was for IVF and I told her I thought this was because of my recent m/c.
Should I just not say anything and let them do the SHG in case it gives an answer about the miscarriages? Does an SHG tell you more than an HSG or is it more of the same?
apricot / 452 posts
@spaniellove: My unprofessional understanding of this is that the HSG tells you if your tubes are blocked. The SHG looks at your actual uterus and can tell if there are any polyps or anything wrong with the uterus that would prevent conception. I had both a HSG and a SHG done at the beginning of my fertility journey. I think different doctors do different things. My SIL went through 4 rounds of IVF and never had to do a SHG.
@ineebee: Good luck on the IUI tomorrow. It sounds very promising!
pomelo / 5228 posts
@spaniellove: I'm not sure if what I had was an SHG or just a regular pelvic ultrasound. They basically checked that everything was normal. Measured my uterus, ovaries, checked out follicles, lining thickness, etc. Definitely a good thing to do at some point, though not sure if that is the goal of what you're going in for or not.

@spaniellove: I'm so sorry about everything you're going through. I hope that they can finally get everything figured out and taken care of so that you can begin again. Big hugs to you!
pear / 1531 posts
@spaniellove: I don't see why it would matter if you were doing IVF or not. If the doctor ordered the SHG, the "state of your uterus" is relevant no matter what you are doing. I'd go ahead with it.

@justdarling: @Mrs.Someone: @marionberry: @ineebee: Thanks guys! It looks like I'm going to have to stop taking the Doxycycline they prescribed for before and after the procedure anyway (it's causing extreme stomach irritation and I've had ulcers before) so if I really need the procedure they can prescribe something else...if not I'm just going to skip it because they need to communicate better with me and pay more attention to my records. Last month they prescribed me a med with peanut oil - and I have a peanut allergy.

@raintreebee: I've started to wonder more about PGD...is there a minimum number of embryos you need in order to do it?
pear / 1531 posts
@spaniellove: Good timing. Just got off the phone discussing it with doctor more. I think we are going to do it if we have more than two or three blastocysts. Anything under that, my doctor doesn't really see the point. I think for us it makes sense since we had three wonderful looking blasts last time that didn't pan out, and also we'd really like to avoid a miscarriage. It is a tough decision, though, and it is not cheap. Do you know which genetics lab your clinic works with?
Egg retreival tomorrow!
honeydew / 7916 posts
@raintreebee: Ooh, you're almost there! Lots of luck with the retrieval! I haven't really talked to my current clinic about PGD so I'm not sure which lab they use. Since I'd only be doing mini-IVF at this point, I could end up having to cycle a few times to get enough blasts for PGD to be worthwhile, sigh.

@spaniellove: I puked up the doxycycline they gave me for before the HSG and when I called the RE they didn't make me take it again. After the procedure the radiologist said I could skip taking the second dose too. So it shouldn't necessarily affect you getting the SHG. I agree that they need to pay way more attention to your allergies though! My dentist has given me septocaine more than once despite being allergic and it's extremely painful, so I know how important it is that they pay attention.

@marionberry: How many doses did they originally prescribe for you? I remembered you saying you threw up, which was what led me to look at the side effects when I started hurting.
pomelo / 5041 posts
@spaniellove: they originally prescribed one for before and one for after the procedure to prevent infection.
honeydew / 7916 posts
@marionberry: That seems more reasonable! I can't understand why they gave me ten doses.
nectarine / 2433 posts
@spaniellove: 10 doses seems quite unreasonable! I don't have any serious allergies but I can't imagine how frustrating it must be to have to double check everything they provide you.
@raintreebee: Good luck today!
@ineebee: Good luck today!

@mrswin: Thanks! I'm killing time between the drop-off and my IUI at Starbucks and shoe shopping. Ahh, the good life.

@raintreebee: Hope everything goes well today and you have a smooth recovery!

@ineebee: Sending good vibes your way! Maybe we'll both get lucky this cycle
nectarine / 2433 posts
@ineebee: Hahaha I know what you mean. They would tell me to go walk around for an hour or so before coming back for the IUI so I would go kill time at Winners! Not good for my wallet but a pretty good distraction!

@shutterbug, @spaniellove, @mrswin, @mrs. someone: Thank you, ladies! Let's hope the third time's a charm!

Retrieval went well. 17 eggs! Trying not to get too excited though since last time we had 16 and none took. But feeling happy!!

@raintreebee: That's awesome! Hopefully this will give you a good number to work with for PGD!

@raintreebee: Yay for a successful ER! Here's to the next step being just as successful!

@raintreebee: great news! Agree with spaniellove, don't compare to last time, because you have the added boost of PGD this time. Have a relaxing day today!

@ineebee: Good luck today! I really hope the third time's a charm!
@raintreebee: Yay! Congrats! I hope this spells great things for you.
@spaniellove: 10 seems like way too many. I know when I got sick off of them, they said that many people have bad reactions to it, so Idk why they'd ever think to give someone so many. The radiologist seemed to imply that you only need to take it afterward if they end up having to do something while they're in there (unblock something, remove something, etc.) but that as long as the scan goes well, you can skip them.
nectarine / 2705 posts
@raintreebee: So glad to hear you had a successful egg retrieval! Enjoy that happy feeling - just stay there in that happy place
@ineebee: I hope 3rd time's a charm for you! Thinking of you!
nectarine / 2705 posts
@spaniellove: I looked up the sonohysterogram. I'm confused why they would prescribe any meds for that procedure, but maybe every office is different. It sounds a lot like the saline sonogram and I didn't take a thing for that. I do think it's a good procedure to do. It showed a totally different view than the HSG and for me - it confirmed the blockage in my uterus. I hope this procedure will give you some more answers. Hugs to you!
