We have names picked out. We started talking about names when we first started TTC and it took us a year to agree on one boy and one girl name. I do hope that no one in our close circle uses them before we get a chance. I'd be pretty sad if we had to choose another boys name. It's pretty special to us.

We have names picked out and I'm actually not worried that we'll have to change them. They are kind of unique and the only ones we could agree on.

The boy name I like is classic and pretty common, so it wouldn't bother me if someone had a baby and named it the same...unless it was my brother or DH's brother.

I don't have a girl name picked out.

@bluestriped bee: That was all so thoughtful of you to do. It takes a lot to support friends through showers and pregnancies and new babies while we're going through...this. I'll keep my fingers crossed that just maybe it'll work out for your girl name!

We were going to use a name for our boy that I made us change because it's just too popular.

And I also worry because my plan if I have a girl is to not use the exact name, but very close to my friend's girl name that she has picked out. She would use the nickname and I'd have a full name but still call her the nickname. In a normal situation I wouldn't do this, but the name is for my grandma so it's very special to me. And honestly, I think I'd still use it even if my friend had a girl first and named her kid that. I just don't feel like I should change my plans due to a friend, when our kids probably won't even go to the same school. And I'm especially not going to change my plans for a "what if" because she might never have a girl, she might just have boys. But I wouldn't mind having a boy so I don't have to worry about it anymore.

I have names picked out and I am a little worried someone else will use them first... I don't tell anyone the names in hopes no one will think of using them on their own.

@bluestriped bee: Oh no. You're not selfish at all... it's so hard to act happy about something like that.

We have ideas for names but nothing that is definite. DH says it's my decision when the time comes but he prefers shorter names since we have a long last name. I have always LOVED Elizabeth so I don't know if I will use it or not. I might would use the nn Ellie, which might satisfy DH. I do have a friend who used Elizabeth but I only see her a few times a year, so I am not too worried about using it for that reason.

I wanted to use my grandmother's name as a middle name but my sister used it for her daughter's middle name. I was really crushed when she did, particularly the way she approached it. She said she didn't remember me saying that I wanted to use it or she may have been more sensitive.

@bluestriped bee: I am sorry about your friend using your girl name...maybe it will work out. Or if you love it enough, I say use it anyway!

No, for several reasons. A big one is that I won't let my heart go there yet.

Another reason, we can't use the only name I have had on my mind for years, since it is close to DH's sister's name.

Its also Jewish tradition to name kids after deceased family members. While I don't want anyone to die, this one one reason why its too early for us.

And, I don't feel there is any point in having the discussion until I'm safely pregnant and maybe not until we know what we have. DH is going to be a tough one name-wise, so I see no reason to have the argument yet

@bluestriped bee: Does she know you're struggling with TTC? If you'd still consider the name, I'd text her and be like "that's our number one girl name too!" Just so she doesn't think you "stole" it. Especially if she does have a boy and then you have a girl. It's also my philosophy that I'm open about the names I love, and if someone else wants to choose them that's fine, but I'm not changing my choices.

We did have 2 full girl names picked out while we were struggling with IF, as we were hoping to have 2 daughters one day. Anna Zoey and Chloe Emma. And for the brief moment I thought we were having a girl (accidentally saw the email and misread it) I was relieved that we had already decided. Picking out a boy's name was NOT fun. DH hates most boy names and it was a real struggle to agree on one.
