Hmm, i never really thought about that! I had contractions for 24 hours before they finally started me on pitocin and i didn't eat for about 36 hours. I really struggled in the first week because i didn't realize that my milk hadn't come in yet. I struggled in the beginning for sure, and i don't think i had a "smooth" nursing relationship until the 8 week mark. In the end, it was a success.

I was induced and had an epidural, but my milk came in on day 3 with more than enough for DS. Interested to see what others experienced. Good luck!

I was induced and had a C-section and my milk did not arrive until my 9th day post partum. The first month was really rough but I was able to have a very successful time pumping and breastfeeding for 9 months. I wanted to go to a year but pregnancy impacted my supply early! Good luck!!!

I wasn't induced, but I had a c section due to pre e. The nurses told me that the mag sulfate can really slow down milk production. My milk didn't come in until day 5 & even then it was still not very much. I started taking fenugreek & blessed thistle which increased it to the point where I have enough for one twin at each nursing session. I am still on meds for my blood pressure at 4 weeks pp.

@caffeinated: At 6 weeks it was still hard for me. I remember crying to my mom on the phone asking her when it got easier for her...she said 3 days- no help at all! But at 8 weeks I remember suddenly realizing that it was much easier finally! Funny how that realization hits!

I was induced, and had a long traumatic labor. 36 hours later, my baby was born with an Apgar of 1, so she was in pretty bad shape. She was in the nicu for a week, and didn't successfully breastfeed until her fifth day of life. Despite that, I had no trouble and am still going strong at 15 months. I think I got really, really lucky, and I'm sorry to hear it's not been easy for you.

ETA: My milk didn't really come in until day 4 either - that's pretty common. Do you have good help from a lactation consultant?

Interesting. I wasn't induced and breast feeding has been a piece of cake.

I was induced at 38 weeks. My baby was 4 lbs 11 oz when she came home from the hospital. No one even brought up supplementing with formula to me in the hospital or at our first ped appt 3 days after we were released. My milk came in on probably the third or fourth day. We went to the breastfeeding support group about 3 times a week at first to make sure she was gaining. Now I only go once or twice a week just to check to make sure we're still doing ok.

I wasn't induced but like @mrsjyw: I had a long labour (27 hours) that had to be augmented with syntocinin (a version of pitocin), had an epidural and I also had to be pumped full of iv fluids and antibiotics.

My milk didn't fully come in for almost seven days although I had a lot of colostrum and at eight weeks I'm still having issues with breastfeeding due to a bad latch and tongue and lip tie issues.

Thankfully I have excellent supply so LO is still gaining stacks of weight even though she spits up after almost every feeding!

Interestingly enough, supplementing with formula was never suggested and my midwives were very adamant that I should exclusively breastfeed even though LO was hungry and had lost a lot of weight.

Just looking at my notes, LO weighed 3885gm (8lb 9oz) at birth, 3655(8lb 1oz) after 48 hours, 3700 gm (8lb 2oz) at day six and 4160g (9lb 3oz) at 17 days old.

I was induced on a Wednesday and did not have my LO until Saturday morning. She had a fever and was taken away for antibiotics after about 10 minutes of skin to skin. She swallowed a lot of fluid and was very raspy when she was born. She wouldn't latch for over 24 hours due to being full of fluid, so I started pumping colostrum my first night in the hospital and feeding it to her with a dropper. She finally got a latch Sunday morning and fed every two hours even though she was basically asleep constantly.

My milk came in Monday night and I've had an oversupply since day one. I still make too much milk as she sleeps through the night now and I wake up painfully engorged and have to pump. She's almost 3.5 months old!

I was induced and my milk didn't come in until the end of Day 5. And since I was too idiotic/stubborn to supplement until Day 4, I unwittingly starved my son until then! After my milk came in, things started to get much better quickly. He had a bit of trouble latching on one side for a couple of weeks ... but after that, it was mostly smooth sailing.
