It's all so dependent on each individual. I got pregnant on my first IUI for my first (twins) and have been trying for 2+ years and done 4 IUIs, all unsuccessful, for #3. So many women don't even need fertility treatment the second+ time around and so many do and are successful and many others need treatment and are unsuccessful. I wish you the very best, easiest journey to pregnancy.

I agree with what others stated in that you never really know what each journey to pregnancy will be like, especially with unexplained infertility. There's definitely a chance you can get pregnant after a few more months of trying, or you may need some assistance again. You just never know.

I got pregnant pretty easily the first time, 4-5 months of trying. That pregnancy ended at 19 weeks, but everyone kept reassuring us that we would get pregnant quickly again. Well that didnt happen and after over a year of trying and 3 IUIs we did IVF and finally ended up with our daughter. We were considered unexplained since all our tests came back great.

We havent started trying for our next baby yet, though I'm unsure if we should try naturally for a bit or go straight to IVF again since we have 8 frozen embryos left and I feel guilty not using them.

If it were me I would probably call the fertility clinic now as well.

Good luck! You never know how these things will go - DS was IUI #5 on a last (in my mind pointless) attempt as we were waiting for our IVF consult. I’m currently 41 years old and 27 weeks with #2 that was IUI #3. I think that although I was older the second time around I knew it could work and we all had a better idea of what worked for my body. DS was just over two when I went back to my clinic and they never asked about nursing so I didn’t volunteer the information, just checked the medications they gave me with reputable lactation resources and made the decision to keep nursing throughout - until my supply disappeared and it got too painful early i. the second trimester.

@Nutella: unfortunately there wasn't one thing that we did that worked, but both myself and my doctor got a better sense of my body's timing the more cycles we tried - so the first two rounds my first time were just bad timing. Also my clinic's regular protocol was to do trigger shot at the same time as the IUI, but I preferred to do it the day before (as seems more common in North America).

@Nutella: hugs! I know how hard it is to balance the monetary and physical costs of further treatments with the desire for another child! Going in to treatments the second time I had firmly decided that we'd do six rounds with one round break in the middle, but when I was in the thick of it and getting negative tests it was so much more difficult to see things in black and white! It is interesting that your clinic doesn't use a trigger shot in your case, my clinic was very pushy in that sense, their regular protocol for ALL was clomid, trigger shot, and then progesterone patches, pills, AND suppositories. A bit of an overkill sometimes, but also a relief to have a structure in place.

I really liked that my doctor also talked to me after a failed cycle about what I wanted to do going forward, it gave us a chance to think about what did or didn't work and what might increase our chances for the next month. Have you been able to do something like that with your doctor?
