I am planning to breast feed and also give pumped breast milk using the playtex drop in bottles. I was wondering if its necessary to have gripe water just in case the baby needs it? My mom says its an absolute must have, but i know people who never used it. Did you use/need gripe water for your breastfed baby right from the start?

we used it a lot. i don't know if it did anything, but when your baby is gassy, you want to feel like you're doing something! it seemed to help!

@regberadaisy: Its a liquid blend that supposedly helps with colic, gas, and even hiccups.

We used it occasionally, and it did seem to help. It was a fairly short window ... maybe Month 2-4.

We used it once and I don't think it helped. Mylicon drops have worked best for us.

We used it quite a bit in the first month, but not much since then. It seemed to really help her tummy more than gas drops.

We used the Mylicon gas drops for the first couple months periodically, it was recommended by my lactation consultant. It isn't really an issue these days, so we don't use it much.
