Ours is closed for a teacher prep day. I guess it's nice they chose a federal holiday to close on so hopefully some parents have the day off. My husband is home with our lo today.

Nope. They get all the federal holidays off plus about 5 more. DH is home with LO. Neither of us had the day off.

Nope, however normally they would but she took a vacation day today (in home daycare.)

It's open for the full time kids. Part time kids can't go and they run on reduced staff.

LO's school is open. DH used to have Columbus Day off but it switched to Veteran's Day this year.

Mine is closed, but it doesn't surprise me. They close at the drop of a hat.

it's open, but DD only goes T/W
ETA: most of their holidays fall on M/F, so for PT instead of FT, i'm glad we switched to a midweek schedule!

Yes, it's open. They were recently merged into a larger...franchise, for lack of a better word, and that one has the day off, though, so my center isn't sure if they'll be open or closed NEXT year, though.
I do have the day off, but I took him in anyway. He was asking about his girlfriend all weekend, and I wanted a mommy day

Yup ours is open. They are only closed 8 days a year for major holidays (they do take off the day after Thanksgiving).

Open, thank goodness because school is closed and I needed to send our older somewhere

Nope. Had to hire our old nanny for the day because we can't take the day off and both WOH. Need to save our sick days! But she hasn't seen her since she started daycare 2 mo ago and is having a lot of fun. Though the bill is not fun. Lame.

@MamaG: do they have some sort of drop in program for school aged kids?
Yes, They are only closed on major holidays like Christmas and thanksgiving.

@regberadaisy: Yes, our daycare has several options for kids that aren't full time. They have an afterschool program (we don't use, using the public school is significantly cheaper for us), they have drop in for days like today, and they have summer camp for the summer school break. They just require that we let them know in advance that we will be bringing our extra kiddo so they can plan for staffing. I think we pay the same rate as if we were there full time, in our case that's $50/day. But when you don't have any vacation time to use or anyone locally that can watch your kiddo...

@MamaG: so where does your school age kid to within daycare? Do they staff extra for a school age kid room on days like today?

Ours is open, but I noticed that they are closed next year. So weird.

@regberadaisy: Because she's 4, our daycare doesn't technically classify her as school age. She goes to one of the "Pre-K" classes, which is not at full capacity. They do have a number of "floaters or support staff" on duty to cover the greater capacity. And as luck would have it there are a number of teacher kids at our daycare that don't come on days like today, it seems to all balance out somehow.
They school aged program is called "Explorers" and they use the same room as the Private Kindergarten. The pre-K, private K and explorers take up three rooms. I'm not sure how they actually juggle the kids around, but on a normal day none of those rooms are at state ratios, they are below.
