For those who have done IVF, how much of the ivf costs are attributable to the male? My husband and I are thinking about doing different insurance plans next year. I would be on one that covers IVF and he would be on one that does not. We've already done all of the diagnostic testing (semen analysis, blood work, etc.). I'm curious about what costs get charged to the male partner versus which get charged to the female partner. I'm assuming most of the expense relates to the female... Obviously, I'll confirm with my RE's office but the last question I had it took me 3 days to get a response and I only have a few days left to make my benefits election.

We don't have IF coverage so we were all out of pocket.
We frozen his samples and that cost us $400 everytime we froze. It may sound like a lot but I had two IUI cycles cancelled because the pressure to provide a sample was too much for DH and we missed our window. After that, I made sure we had a frozen sample that they could thaw. For my IVF cycle, I can't remember if he provided a fresh or if we had to thaw.
Oh, everytime he provided a sample (fresh or frozen), they had to analyze it. Gave me information like number, motility abd grading. You might have to pay for that. -
At my RE's office I was the only one considered a patient, so everything was charged to me. It didn't matter that all our IF issues were male factor because I was the one attempting to get pregnant.

My husband had to provide a sample for a sperm penetration assay test. They take his sample with hamster eggs to see how the penetration rate is. The bill was close to $700, but they gave us a discount, so the final bill was $350. I think that was it - if we had to do ICSI (which we didn't), it would have been $1,000, but I don't know if that is a female or male cost. good luck making a decision!!

Only the semen analysis, all other procedures even sperm wash are billed under me.
