I have the advent Isis manual pump and have a love-hate relationship with that thing! Majority of the time it takes me a couple tries to get the milk flowing and each time i use it, i get frustrated because the suction doesnt stay put! I always have to stop, take a deep breath and tell myself to relax! I pump 1-2x a day mainly to use for when we go out and starting an emergency stash. Any recommendations? Or do manual pumps all kind of work the same?

I've always had good luck with the Lansinoh manual. I think it has the best suction. I've also used the Medela, which is gentler and you can switch the shield size, but I don't think the suction is quite as good.

I have heard great things about the Lansinoh manual pump, I was actually about to buy it, but I got the double electric for now.

I'm not due for another 5 weeks, but I just ordered the Lansinoh one because it had the best reviews on Amazon.

I always use my double electric, but going on business meetings for more than 2 hours during the day made me realize I needed a manual pump. I didnt do any research and just got the Medela one as my electric is Medela. Ive only had to use it maybe 3 times, but I really like it. Im not sure if they all work the same, but it has two different suction speeds (depths?). When you start, you push the small end quickly to mimic the baby's initial suckling where they suck shallow and quickly, then when letdown occurs, you use the other side of the handle to get longer and deeper suction. No complaints here, but like I said, Ive only used it a handful (haha no pun intended) of times

If anyone has ever used the evenflo "simply go", how did it work out? I picked that one up because it was the cheapest and of course I have to wait 11+ weeks to use it!

I have the Medela and it is ok. I only use it when I'm really engorged and not around my double electric. The suction seems a bit weak because my milk is always kinda watery. Maybe the pump isn't strong enough to suck out the foremilk? Or maybe I'm not pumping hard enough!

For manual, occasionally I use the Evenflo Baby Go- for when I know he is going to nurse again in the near future and I don't want to drain completely, but take some of the engorgement off. (I usually use the Hygeia double electric and love it, so easy to multitask!)
I really like the Evenflo, the suction is good, and I can get 5 oz out of both sides easily, more than that and it is a struggle (I usually get 5-6 oz out of each one with the electric). It took me a while to understand how it works- you build up the suction and it does long pulls of removing the milk. When I first started I didn't bother to read the instructions and kept working the handle really fast. Didn't work so well then! But I like it now that I have figured it out, it is just so slow compared to electric!

@autumnlove: do you use both functions of the pump? I had that issue as well until I actually went and read the instructions. There is a letdown area of the pump, then once letdown occurs I use longer and slower pumps and my output has been the same as with my electric (when Im really engorged.)

@LivsMama: yes, I start off with the shorter end and I switch to the longer side when I see milk. I'll review the instructions again!

@autumnlove: I was doing that too, and getting nothing. Once I waited for the actual letdown (and not just the appearance of droplets) it worked for me.
