I agree with your husband, but I am one of those "path of least resistance" parents. I think as long as your LO is eating at a table, it's fine. I do draw the line at wandering around and eating though.

Liv was the same way. She stopped with her high chair around 13 months or so and we never used a booster. To this day she still eats at her kid sized table or on the hearth in the kitchen. Occasionally she likes to sit on the stools at the kitchen island, but shes usually standing. I don't think you have to worry about one instance running the whole parent versus child control thing. Pick and choose the battles. If letting her eat at a little table works, go with it. She will outgrow it eventually.

My daughter is the same way about any sort of confinement, and is the same way about her high chair. I too didn't want to let her rule the house, but I decided that opting out of the power struggle was the better choice. So, she can eat some meals (clean, no mess) at a little table or at our coffee table. Some food is 'kitchen food' or 'high chair' food, meaning that it makes a mess and stays where I put it. When the family sits down to a meal, she does too.

All of these things have worked, decently. At 22 months she eats well, and will generally sit in her high chair when she's good and hungry. I cut off snacking before meals to let her get hungry, which really helps. The high chair can easily turn into a big power struggle, and I fully believe in opting out of those, as much as humanly possible.

We just put the toddler table next to the kitchen table and C eats there. This one wasn't a decision point since we moved his table next to ours. He still has to be at the "table" as well as with us.
