Did you actually call and check references for your potential nanny or daycare?
If so, what kind of questions did you ask?

I'm on the other side of this, as I'm a nanny, but it would freak me out to hear that someone didn't check references before leaving their child with me! I would ask how long the nanny was with them, if the children seemed happy when she arrived, if the nanny was punctual, if she needed to take time off frequently, if they ever had concerns about the nanny, if she seemed to have a happy energetic disposition, if they felt she carried out their wishes regarding the children and their home, what types of activities she did, and if there is anything they think would be helpful for you to know in making your decision

yes most definitely! i checked all our nanny's references, and posted about our daycare on my local parenting listserv for feedback. you should def check all references!
i'll try to write something up and we have a guest post in the queue for daycare questions...
