i would not want my nanny to post anything about my children, their location or pictures ANYWHERE!
I recently read about a nanny that made up a big hoax about how the kid she was watching was her son...she posted something about him dying in a car accident and she got a lot of sympathy. isn't that sick!?!?!

I think that's very weird and unprofessional. I am actually a nanny myself, and would never think of posting ANYTHING about the child...anywhere. In fact, I've never posted anything on FB about even BEING a nanny...much less what the child does during the day?!

As a parent, I would be VERY uncomfortable with that.

Yeah I wouldn't want my nanny posting stuff about my baby, And I def wouldn't want her online!

I am a nanny, and I have never posted things on a daily basis, but I will post things (with the parents permission). I did ask about posting pictures on facebook because I was living away from my family/friends. So I had pictures of me with the kids up, but the parents knew about it and were tagged in the photos.
The only time I ever posted statuses about the kids I nanny now was, "It's been a week since I saw them - miss them so much!" the mom never minded!

As for being on the internet while the child's sleeping, both mom's actually said I could do whatever I want while they nap. I would usually clean up around the house then work on my homework (which was online) while the baby napped.

But I would never have done any of that without the parent's permission.

That does not sound okay to me!

Hmm, I'm not a parent, so my feelings are probably very different. My first reaction was that she isn't complaining about the child or demonstrating any negligence. She is probably just reaching out for adult interaction and enjoys talking about a child she obviously cares about.

And perhaps the parents actually like the updates? A former co-worker of mine had her daughter in an in-home daycare, and the daycare provider has an entire photo album devoted to her charges. She would tag the parents in the pictures of the kids and put funny little stories along with them. My co-worker freaking LOVED it and would always share all of them on her own wall.

Bottom line: It's quite possible (I'd venture to say it's likely) the parents know and are okay with it, and in that case, I don't have any problem with it.

I don't post pictures of my own babies on Facebook... I'd be so pissed if my nanny did! Totally inappropriate in my book.

That is not appropriate! We don't put any info about our LO on FB and I would be livid if anyone else did.

@lemondrop: I really think the bottom line is that it is NOT okay if the parents have not OK'd it... and if they have, then there really is nothing wrong with it. Even if you would be upset with *your* nanny for doing it, a lot of people wouldn't feel that way.

One of my best friends is a nanny, she posts pictures all the time of her and the girls doing fun stuff out and about, however she has the parent's permission. She is friends with them on FB and they always comment about how much fun they are having.

I wouldn't be okay with my nanny constantly updating their status about my children though, I think there would be better things to do with her time!
