My discharge instructions after my embryo transfer suggests I abstain from alcohol and caffeine...the alcohol, ok. Fine. But caffeine? I only drink a small cup in the morning--thoughts?

I could never. But if you do I wish you luck! I can't comment on the reasons why they would recommend this, but I would call and ask and weigh the risks.

With my first two pregnancies I got pregnant the cycles I quit coffee. I have no idea if that was what did it, but there ya go.
I think I've read that there is a slight increase in miscarriage risk with increased caffeine consumption.
Good luck!

I can't remember if they told me to abstain from caffeine after my transfer. I didn't drink any until after I got out of the first trimester though. Then I would have a small coffee or soda a day.

To me, there's too much money and "pain" with IVF to risk going against the directions. I didn't have to go through IVF myself, but I significantly limited caffeine in the first trimester and I quit cold turkey 4 weeks ago at 28 weeks when they found that my baby has a heart arrhythmia.

@Mrs. Pinky: Congratulations on your transfer!! As for the caffeine, yes, it stinks, but I've been trying to cut back in anticipation of my IVF in January. I agreeā¦ worth it!

My dr said to limit to 1 small cup daily, but I just abstained. Better be safe than sorry!

@Mrs. Pinky: I'm in the trenches with you in IVF and I agree with all of the comments here... I've been on the caffeine-free habit since August when preparing for my fresh cycle. We had an unexpected freeze-all and since October I've been waiting for my FET. Perhaps understandably, I've gotten a little lax on the caffeine rule but I'll drop it again once I start BCPs. Fortunately, I don't miss coffee so much. It's a wonderful thing but it messes with my stomach and my sleep patterns....but I do miss tea which can have quite a bit of caffeine itself. Raspberry tea is my go-to right now but it's not the same.
Hoping your embie is burrowing down and you get to have your caffeine back somewhere down the road soon!

@Mrs. Pinky: I still had my 1 cup per day and had a successful pregnancy - I did IVF along with another girl who abstained from EVERYTHING and did not get pregnant - so......
