I know my teacher friend is glad that teacher evaluations won't be tied to how well student testing goes, but she's bummed the students still have to do all the testing.

@Adira: Our state still has the requirement for teacher evaluations to include a portion of student achievement growth. This new mandate just doesn't require it of states.

Looks like a big bone of contention for teachers was tying student test scores to teacher performance (pay?).
Common Core curriculum also goes away, which should make some parents happy.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: It sounds to me like the states don't have to use Common Core, but they still can if they want, right?

@Adira: @Mrs. Lemon-Lime: Correct. Common Core is not going away and Common Core is not a curriculum, it is standards. Many states have adopted the CCSS and will continue to use. This just says the Feds can't tie money to require the states to follow.
