A few times this past week I have mentioned to a few different people that my 10 month old DS still nurses 5 times a day... They were all shocked that he nursed that much. Is this unusual? Personally, I would rather have him drinking lots of milk!

I nursed my DD every 3 hours (during the day) until she was a year old? She wasn't big on solids until she was 14-15 months old or so.

Toddler X nursed 8x a day until around 9 months, and he dropped to 5x a day a few weeks later, and then a few weeks after that he dropped to 2-4 for the last couple of months of nursing. 5x a day is a lot, but I was there at that point

P is 9 months and we still nurse anywhere from 6-10 times in a 24 hour period.

exactly what RUNSYELLOWLITES said for us too (9 months too)....it all depends on how many night wakings (we usually have at least 2 nightwakings). We do wake up, first nap, 2nd nap, bedtime, and then nightwakings.
My friend with a 1 year old does 3 during the day plus 'however many nightwakings'.

Five 5 oz bottles during the day - usually none overnight.

I'm a nurser on demand, and my girl is a snacker, so we've always been more like 6-15 times a day. 5 is absolutely normal.

I nurse on demand. He probably nurses 10 times per day for nutrition and another 5 times a day for comfort.

I also nurse on demand, and like @sarac: my LO is a snacker. We can nurse up to 10 times a day; average is about 6 or 7. She's gonna be 11 months old in a few days.

Hmm... well we bottle feed. DD is 9.5 months, and I haven't dropped any of her feedings. I still feed her a bottle every 3 hours during the day, for 5 feedings in total. She doesn't eat much during some of those feedings... especially when she has just consumed a whole bunch of solid food, but I always offer the bottle.

I was worried when I was doing 5 at a little over a year. Now at almost 2 years he still does 4.

Thanks everyone! I didn't feel like 5 was a lot, but everyone seemed shocked every time I told them. One of them was even a mom of 4 young children. Thanks for the reassurance. (and sorry for the late response!)
