@regberadaisy: Chloe used to do lunch bunch, which is a two hour after school program and we'd pack a lunch for that!

I'd pack her a peanut butter sandwich, string cheese, a veggie (baby carrots, cauliflower flourets, broccoli, cucumbers) a fruit (gogo squeeze, apple slices, a banana [she knows how to peel it!], strawberries) and a snack, like a handful of cheezits or triscuits.

I made sure it was all small portions so it didn't overwhelm her. she always ate 90% of it!

Our kids have been taking field trips 2 times a week for summer camp and lots of them require a brown bag lunch - AKA: everything is thrown away at the end.

DS gets:
pepperoni
chips or crackers
apple or grapes (both do well sitting out for several hours before being eaten)
blueberry muffins or a rice krispy treat
water

DD gets the same thing but bologna instead of pepperoni.

@regberadaisy: I've worked in a lot of schools and everything is "nut free", which includes peanut butter. In most public schools, peanut butter is still allowed (allergic kids have a designated lunch table to be but free), but in preschool settings I think the potential for cross-contamination would be greater & I'd try to avoid it. I'm thinking a kid eats a pb sandwich or cracker and doesn't get properly washed up (being out on a trip and all) and then touches an allergic child or some other scenario. As a teacher, I get anxious when peanuts are around kiddos with allergies because I don't want to have to use the Epi-pen!
