Spinning off from Hilsy85's thread, when did you introduce peanut butter? LO is almost 13 months and we haven't given it to her yet, (we're not huge peanutbutter eaters) but I think we should start.
When did you start your LO on p-nut butter?

We waited with DD until 14/15 months; we gave it to DS at 10.5 months. Both kids have been fine.

I'm wondering this too. lo is 13 months and we haven't tried giving it to her yet but I would like to. Our ped is recommending that we wait till two.

Our doctor also said to wait until 2 for peanuts so we're waiting until then. I'm excited for that day.... I love peanut butter!

I was terrified we'd discover his first allergy so we didn't try until he was almost 3! Haha.

LO accidentally ate a piece of a PB sandwich the day after her 1st bday and she was fine. We didn't offer it again until she was 14 months and it is now one of her favorite foods!

LO is turning 1 in a few weeks. I think we will wait til maybe 14 months or longer.

DD had her first taste at about 21 months. My doc said to wait until closer with 2 for my son. I don't think we will introduce it before 20 months or so, just because we don't eat that much of it.

It was around 13 months for DD. Her first 2 exposures were fine. Her 3rd exposure she broke out in hives around her mouth. She has a moderate peanut allergy. The pediatrician suggested we add a peanut test to DS's routine bloodwork when he was around 12 months, and he tested negative.

12 months. I was curious, and of course he is allergic to peanut butter. While I feel like a bad mom, I'm actually glad I gave it to him to see his reaction. It wasn't severe, but his mouth was itchy and red (same reaction he has to cow's milk).

charlie accidentally had some in a cookie maybe around 18 months?

@MungBean: @artbee: Wow, what's the reason behind the age of 2?
I gave mine a bit at 11 months, and she was fine.

@prettylizy: LOL, i think you need to remove the sing-song out of her name for her to be paged. hehee

@prettylizy: What about sunflower seed butter instead? Tastes almost just like peanut butter, it is just as versatile, healthy, and there is a much smaller risk of allergies. My LO loves it! Eats it daily straight out of the jar and acts like it is gold! We are fans of the Once Again brand which is organic (they have both a no sugar/salt added and regular version) and has a lower risk of cross contamination or of making our own which is super easy to do.

@anbanan15: that sounds excellent! Since we're not big peanut butter eaters, I don't think it'll matter what we have in the house. When I was eliminating things from my diet for her intolerances I just cut PB all together to be safe.

I'm allergic to peanut butter (mildy) and DS's doc said not to try it till he's at least 2 and even then he says to hold off more if we can. We don't have peanut butter in the house.

@prettylizy: There have been several studies on early introduction of allergens, with new evidence saying introduce early. Let me pull some studies. BRB.

Ooh, I should add that both my girls had peanut butter before age 1. The allergic daughter had it 30 minutes before our allergist appointment (just in case!)

At our 9 month appointment our ped said we were cleared to feed LO everything, including peanut butter. Her only food allergy is pears, and even that hasn't been proven, just suspected. LO is almost 10 months and we have not given her pb yet. On one hand, I want to do it early to try to avoid allergies, on the other hand I'm nervous!! We will try it soon though, I think. For now, LO eats soy butter and jelly at daycare and is fine.

I think X had his first at 8 or 9 months. Not because we waited, we just never happened to give him any before then. The way it happened was kind of funny. I was holding a teething ring and a peanut granola bar and looked away, felt X chomp on something, figured it was the teething ring and kept doing what I was doing. Nope, I looked down and he had chomped into the granola bar. So he went straight to peanuts before even trying peanut butter. We let him have nuts first because I was worried about him being able to handle the stickiness of nut butters without choking. But he started on PB at 11 months or so. He LOVES LOVES LOVES PB and almond butter at 17 months. LOVES it and has since first bite.

LO first had a taste of peanut butter at around 9 months. I inadvertently gave him almonds at around 7 months, not knowing pancakes I was eating were made with almond flour and almond butter.

@Freckles: I think it's the older school of thought that delaying allergenic foods = better. I've down my own research, though, and don't think I'll be waiting that long. I'll probably give it to her sometime soon, but I wanna wait until we're around the doctor's office, just in case
honeydew / 7444 posts
@MungBean: Ahh, ok. My pediatrician told me at our 9 month appointment that the only thing he wants me to wait on was whole milk. He's with the "delaying it doesn't prevent allergies" school of thought. Luckily, LO didn't have a reaction!
@Mrs. Jacks: My coworker's daughter gave her son peanut butter in the parking lot of the hospital's emergency room!

Hmm.. I haven't decided on this one. I have a severe peanut allergy.. I can't even be in the same room as people eating peanuts because it makes it difficult for me to breath. I truly hope that DD isn't allergic..
I'll probably have DD allergy tested before I introduce it..
Although she'll never be able to eat peanuts around me I have said that ill make her peanut butter sandwiches if she really likes them. I'll just use gloves and a mask (hopefully I won't need a mask). Haha.

DS was about a week shy of 16 months the first time he had peanut butter. I was so nervous about it!!
