If I send bottles of breastmilk to the babysitters in an insulated cooler bag straight from the fridge, can she keep them out during the day to let them get to room temperature? Or will they go bad? He'll be there for about 8 hours.
Can't find a straight answer by googling.

I *think* that's okay - I know there are more experienced pumpers/bottle-feeders here than me. But as far as I can remember, that should be fine, as long as you aren't planning to re-refrigerate them again.

I would think since it's previously been refrigerated that it shouldn't sit out at room temp that long. I know freshly pumped milk is ok like 8-10 hours but not sure if it's already been cooled. Does the baby sitter not have a fridge?

About 6 hours at room temp is considered ok, but if you can keep it refrigerated longer it will preserve the nutrients better.

If they were previously frozen, no.
If they have been from breast to fridge only, they can be out for about 2 hours.
Fresh, never have been cold, 6 hours

I'd keep it in a cooler or in fridge until it gets used...I wouldn't want to risk temperature issues.

No, they should really stay cold. At the very least with a couple ice packs.

I would say to be safe no.
The other advantage is if she keeps it refrigerated then if he doesn't take it you can use it the next day.

She has a fridge but T takes the bottle better when it's warm. Leaving them out to get to room temp on their own would save her time, but I'll just tell her to keep them in the fridge! Thanks!!!

@Danizaur: Our daycare has us use a small crock pot of water that they keep on during the day. When it gets close to feeding time, they drop the bottle in and its warm within like 2-4 minutes (just enough to get the chill off is also what we did). Maybe look into getting her something like that?

I agree with others...I would keep them in the fridge. My nanny used to take the bottle out about ten minutes before feeding my LO and warm it up in a pan of water.

Our sitters typically take the next bottle out of the fridge when they do a feeding. So at drop of we leave one on the counter to get warm. At that first feeding the sitter will set the bottle out for feeding #2 and so on.

I usually microwave water in a glass measuring cup and then let the bottle sit in there for under 5 minutes. Time in the water depends on how long I microwave the water for, but it doesn't take very long.

I think they used a crockpot of water to warm bottles at our daycare. We always just ran the bottle under warm water/ set it in a bowl of warm water to warm it up. Make sure to tell the daycare worker not to shake the bottle. It should be swirled instead of shaken for breastmilk.
