We have been using one kind of formula, and like stupid first time parents, we are going to run out before morning. We have enough for two more feeds. We received two samples of formula in the mail from Enfamil and Similac. Is it okay to use those for a few feeds until we can get the other formula tomorrow? We don't want to mess anything up!

Do you have any grocery stores open late? Target? 24 hour CVS? If you change up the formula it might upset baby's stomach. But better to be fed at least.

Is there not a 24 hour walmart or Target near you? I wouldn't want to give a new formula for the first time in the middle of the night.

@citymouse: are you completely out of the nature's one? If not, I'd go out and get more formula and try to mix at least 50/50. Most important thing is to feed the baby. If you have to get new stuff, maybe a super gentle one? And some gas drops might help.

@ShootingStar: We have enough for about two more feeds of Natures One. The samples we have from Similac are the Gentle-Ease kind for gassy/colic babies. We also have the Infant Premium from Enfamil.

My DD was very picky with her formula. I don't want to scare you but yes I would mix it 50/50 so it's not completely another type of formula. She hated the powder ones.

Ok so I would pick one formula to mix with, which may mean going out to get more. Assuming your baby's eating every 2 hours I'd mix 1/3 old formula and 2/3 new formula and stretch it out for the next several feeds until the store opens and you can buy your current formula. If baby's eating less frequently than 2 hours you may be able to do 50/50.
Don't panic, baby will ok :-). You might not have the easiest night but it's not the end of the world.

@citymouse: We use Baby's Only as well and it is ALWAYS selling out at the store we buy it at. We've learned to buy several weeks worth at a time and just keep storing up as we go. I wish more stores offered this formula. It truly is the best!

@citymouse: happy to help :-). We all have those moments the first few weeks. Your brain is just so fried from the end of pregnancy, labor, taking care of a newborn, etc. Keeping a baby fed is one the most stressful things ever.

@coopsmama: We just discovered that is the case here as well! The guy at the store said basically the shelves are cleaned out before they can even unpack it and a lot of families just have standing orders with them. Goodness! We ordered 3 months worth from Natures One directly tonight!

I used Wegman's Organic and on more than one occasion they were out of it and I had to give her something else. She did absolutely fine with the switch - I know some babies are pickier or have issues, but fortunately it was a nonissue for us. I hope it's not a big deal for you either!

@tysonja: @MrsH: @singingbee: Seemed to go okay, a bit more spit up than normal, but we were expecting that anyway. We had tried some Enfamil before and he was spitting up a lot, so we figured that would happen again. Our formula should be here on Thursday though!

@citymouse: this happened more time than I care to admit (we were on Allimentum, and it frequently sold out in stores around us.) we started buying 3 cans at a time, instead of 2 so that way we didn't run into this! It happens to the best of us though

@citymouse: 3 months worth?? Good call. Now you'll be sure to never have this problem again! I'm glad to read that your LO did well all things considered. The few times we've run out we've bought Earth's Best and DS never had a problem with the switch either -- minus some constipation haha. I think most LOs are pretty adaptable about these things.
