Has anyone had this issue or know someone who has? My lactation consultant and I suspect this is my issue. I'm waiting for a call back from a lactation doctor so that I can be diagnosed.
If you have it how was it treated? Until I can see the doctor I'm trying to keep my breasts warm with an extra layer of clothes along with a heating pad.

I THINK this is what my cousin has...her skin is really sensitive to cold air or something like that? She pumps and BFs and I can't remember exactly how it affects breastfeeding. Want me to ask her anything for you?

@Thehistoryofus: Thanks, I hadnt found that article! The part where it says that the women had "prompt relief" when treated gives me so much hope! I do have the cold issues and the color blanching. I just thought it was all pretty normal until the pain really really intensified this week.

I just heard of this today while wondering and googling about my own issues. I have a lot of pain in the breast between feedings and always thought it was normal. I definitely have the blanching but not the cold sensitivity. What symptoms do you have?

I'm not any help with it in regards to breastfeeding, but I have it & it effects my hands & feet. Have you had it else where before? Just curious if it's common to develop it in breasts during breastfeeding if you've had it elsewhere or if there's no correlation between having in other areas & then developing it during breastfeeding. Hope it you find a solution that's works for you soon!!

I'm in the same boat as @mrsbird. I have it in my hands, feet, nose and lips. It never occurred to me that it could affect breast feeding.

@Tidybee: I have throbbing pain in my breast during and between feedings. It's so intense that it usually feels like it dies all the way through to my back and hurts/burns there too. I have nipple blanching. It also gets markedly worse when my breasts are cold (getting out of the shower, etc.). I'm sorry that you're going through something similar!
@mrs. bird: I haven't ever noticed it in other areas before beastfeeding. From what I've read it's never caused by breastfeeding... Breastfeeding just triggers it.

@Running Elley: She sent me a long text back about Raynaud's so I'm gonna type it out below.
"Look up this doctor from Canada - Dr. Jack Newman - I will write about what his suggestions are. Unfortunately I have come to believe that there will always be some level of discomfort associated with anything that exposes the breast to cool (even room temp) air (ie breastfeeding and pumping). On the flip side I have realized that I will have these symptoms whether I breastfeed or not as well - I'm to the point now where I have to wear so many layers when it's cold that I sweat or suffer - so it's a catch 22. Heat is the first most beneficial thing - before and after you feed or pump (and dress in layers up top when going outside - they sell wool bras and tanks. I have tried reusable breast pads called bamboobies that seem to keep me drier and warmer but I also use Johnsons reusables) and apply anytime nipples turn white or blue. Vitamin B6 (watch for decrease in milk supply - large doses can do this - usually larger than what is suggested here) 100-200mg once daily for 4 days, then 25mg daily thereafter. If pain returns, start over and decrease to the lowest amount before pain returned. Procardia XL 30mg once daily for 14 days or Nitrobid 2% ointment applied sparingly after each feeding for 24 hours, then when blanching occurs (should be able to stop between 2 and 14 days). B6 and heat seem to be the best thing for me - the others didn't work for me but everyone is different."

Yes, but not seriously. Mostly a nasty tingling/burning sensation and the weird blanching. I deal by leaving my breast uncovered after a long nursing session. If I've nursed in public, I'll sometimes stick my hand down my bra and make a little space around my nipple just to let the blood return. Soooo sexy. Various positions make it better or worse, but now that I've figured it out I hardly notice it any more.

@sarac: Just curious- which positions seem to help you? I've been using the football hold which seems to be helping a little.
