So DD just started K in fall. We just got her first report card and we had her teacher conference a few weeks before getting the report card.

We were shocked when we got it. And no, we don't want to be "those" parents who question the teacher and we don't want anyone to think we think DD is an angel perfect child but what we know, what the teacher said was not reflected in the report card.

And I'll use two specific things to illustrate our point.
1. in math the teacher told us DD already has, knows, uses and can demonstrate all the methods and things needed for K, she already possesses all the requirements to move onto 1st grade in math. The teacher told that to us in our conference, two of us heard and read the same thing.

On the report card she gets a "ME", meets requirements, which is fine, however why would she not get an "EE", the highest, exceeds requirements?

2. Under behavior, the range is 1-4, 4 is "consistently".
-interacts appropriately with peers/teachers/etc

DD is the easiest kid, when she started preschool at 3 her teachers said she was the youngest but she was the most well behaved in class, this has followed her through her 2nd yr in preschool and into K, her teacher said she was a good listener (always surprises us!) and she follows rules and directions. BUT she got a 3 instead of a 4...

DH and I mentioned that we must have misunderstood the conference and were surprised to see no EE's and no 4's...

teacher immediately called me to explain that it's an agreed upon thing in their k's that no one gets an "EE" unless they are doing 1st grade work and that it's just what all the teachers agreed upon and that i should rest assured that DD is working well above the ME..... so then my question is why the heck not give her the EE!!?!??!?! what's the point of having it if you "aren't going to use it bc it's agreed upon".. it's "our policy"????

As for the behavior one, she told me that DD did interact appropriately most of the time but there have been 1 or 2 times (out of 3 months) when she slipped up...to which I said the 4 says she has to do it "consistently" not "perfectly".. heck nobody is perfect so why should she have to be perfect to get a 4!?!?!?

Anyway... we don't want to be those parents but it seems we might be just by nature.

What is the point of having EE"s and 4's if you aren't going to give them?? And why do they expect perfection from kids.... its impossible.....

I also know that it's not all kinders that don't give ee's bc the school a few miles away def gives them bc our friends posted specifics about what ee's their kids got... when i mentioned that DD's teacher specifically said "oh, that kid must not go to our school..." and she's right....
