I can't get lo to use a sippy. I've tried three different kinds and last week finally tried giving him a drink from my cup. He drank it like a champ. Any advice? Let him drink that way? Keep pushing the sippy? We're coming up on a year and I'm not sure how to handle it.

Have you tried straw cups? But if he'll do an open cup I would just stick to that! No real need to do a sippy.

@hilsy85: yeah, he wasn't a fan of that either. If I stick with the open cup though should I continue with his milk in a bottle? My mom is pressuring me to quit the bottle.

@Mrs. Polish: eh I think it's up to you. I think 1 is still young to be worried about the bottle, my pedi doesn't even mention it til 15 months. But up to you if you want to switch completely!

First, C is 21 months and still gets a bottle at bedtime. Its a comfort for her and I dont think she's ready to give it up... and Im really okay with it. It's not the end of the world. Quit when you think your LO is ready, not because someone says you should. Our ped is fine with it.
C was the same way. She hated sippy cups but would drink from an open cup. We did finally get her to drink from a straw cup though. We used the trick where we blew air into the straw to push the liquid up and then gave it to her. When she put her mouth on it, it's instant gratification. It only took a couple times for her to figure out to suck on it and she was good. She will drink from any cup now.

You could try a cup with a lid like this so he doesn't have to be constantly supervised and it drinks the same way as an open cup:

As for the milk, what we did was always have two cups with different designs available so LO would recognize which is his milk cup and which is his water cup. He picks what he wants to drink throughout the day. If you find that he isn't drinking enough milk for your liking, you can always break out the bottle at nap time or whenever it is he usually gets a bottle. My LO is 14 months and we bottle weaned at a year.
