OMG. i am so sorry! i'm sure something awful must have happened, so i feel for both of you. your husband is a teacher, right? is he home for the summer, i hope? what a tough spot, i hope you find someone quickly!

@autumnlove: well she claims that it is a temporary measure to help her sort some stuff out in her life. I don't believe her to be honest, and I'm just really angry that she didn't even bother to say goodbye to DD.

So sorry. It is always hard when changes occurs. I hope you are able to figure something out.

@mrs. bird: DH is home until the end of August thank God! So i have to figure something out quickly. I wanted to send DD to daycare in October so I'm sad that i have to bring in someone else only to switch it up again so soon. Im worried that it will make her insecure, nervous and clingy.
Can you tell I'm freaking out???!!!

@swedishfish: nope, but DH is home until end of August, thank God.

@plantains: gah! That's so awful and inconsiderate! I'm so sorry. I hope you find something soon!!

@Mrs. Pen: thank you. I'm just feeling butt hurt by it right now, she was part of the family. I cant believe she would do this.
Also DH is out of town tonight so i am solo and feeling sorry for myself.

@plantains: I was a nanny for so long and I just couldn't imagine doing that to a family- being a nanny is such a personal job. I gave my nanny family a three month notice out of courtesy! I'm so, so sorry
I also recommend care.com, also nannies4hire!

@plantains: Sorry to hear that. It definitely sucks and is unprofessional that she is leaving without notice. I hope you can find someone soon. Do you have a neighborhood listserv or did you use a service to find your nanny? Good luck!

@plantains: so sorry! I am going through the nanny hiring process right now, and things like this worry me. I hope you find someone or something soon.

@plantains: I third the care.com. That and sittercity.com are how I've found all my nanny jobs. And it's pretty common to see temporary positions, so it shouldn't be too hard to find someone. The families I've interviewed with have said they all got a ton of applicants.
Sorry this happened! I would never do that to a family. Good luck for finding someone so great that LO has no stress with it!

That SUCKS! Can you sneak by without using an interim nanny? If your husband is home for the rest of the month can you start daycare in September? I just noticed that my girls disliked transitions more than the nannies that weren't working out. I was hoping you could skip that trial phase altogther.

@Mrs. Jacks: this is what i am thinking. I am going to call the daycare on Monday to see what the deal is. daycare is 2400 a month which is rough for us, so i might try to talk my boss into letting me do 1 day a week from home. If i can, we would save 500 dollars a month.

Aww man That is such a low blow. I hope you can work something out that works for your family soon!

@plantains: why is daycare so spendy?! In a major metro area with a high cost of living for extended hours, I was going to be paying $2000.

Boo! This happened to one of my coworkers last fall. She and her husband (both teachers) had to alternate taking sick days for 2 weeks until they found a replacement. Good luck finding a new nanny and I hope your LO isn't too sad about the change.

@plantains: Noooo that's ridiculous. I'm so sorry. I hope you can find someone else stat!

This is the second time I've heard this happening in a month. This is why I'm hesitant to go down the nanny route, even though we'll probably need the flexibility.

I finally got hold of DH and he talked me off the ledge and now i am feeling much more positive about this whole thing. I am going to just try to see if i can get her into daycare for September 1st. MIL is coming down tomorrow to see if she can help. Thanks everyone, i feel so much better.

@Katrocap: thanks, I hope so too. She is 13.5 months so hopefully that is still young enough that she will forget quickly.
@Mrs. Jacks: seriously, it is almost as much as our NYC mortgage! Insanity!!!!
@Katrocap: that isn't a bad idea. I have a lot of vacation at work, maybe i can take some days in September.
honeydew / 7687 posts
@plantains: that is AWFUL. so inconsiderate. glad you're feeling better about it, but seriously that was crummy of her.
honeydew / 7488 posts
So sorry! They aren't required to give 30 days notice like everyone else?
GOLD / wonderful grape / 20289 posts
My sils nanny quit with just a week notice and I thought that was bad. She was really someone to help out my mom who is retired so it wasn't a huge deal.... Except my mom was going on vacation that next week.
blogger / eggplant / 11551 posts
How stressful!!! Thankfully you have a backup plan, but that is really inconsiderate. I wonder if something must've happened, or if she's really just that irresponsible.
blogger / pineapple / 12381 posts
@plantains: we just wrote the amount of notice she'd be required to give in our contract. We probably wouldn't go after her if she violated it, but at least the expectation is spelled out in writing!
grapefruit / 4671 posts
@Mrs. Jacks: this was where i went wrong. We discussed 2 weeks notice, but it isnt written into a contract.
GOLD / wonderful pomegranate / 28905 posts
@plantains: what about starting daycare early then? I think that might be better than someone watching her for 2 months then switching it up on her again??
pear / 1861 posts
That is just unprofessional! At least you are looking to see if LO can start in September. Hopefully she can and she can get adjusted well.
grapefruit / 4671 posts
@locavore_mama: i emailed the daycare lady today. She will get back to me on Monday about availability.
kiwi / 649 posts
That is really unprofessional. Honestly, as a nanny, I'm wondering what caused her to quite last minute, though. I hope you find back up case asap!
GOLD / wonderful pomegranate / 28905 posts
@plantains: I would check and see if she has a profile on any of the nanny sites! That's so unprofessional and other potential parents need to know!
