For those of you who recently introduced solids to your LO, do you breastfeed/formula-feed before or after giving solids? How long do you wait?

Until L hit 8 months, I always nursed first and then did solids about :45 to an hour later. Now, I do solids first at the suggestion of my ped to help with L's weight gain.

We've always given the bottle first and followed it with solids. I tried to view solids as "just for fun" and made sure DS got the majority of his nutrition from his formula.

I give her a bottle and then do solids about 45m-1hr after. That way it doesn't interfere with or reduce the amount of formula she intakes.

I agree with everyone, nurse or bottle first, then solids. One of my friends recently told me that for the first year, "food is fun."

I always focused on nursing first and fit solids in between nursing sessions. It is more for practice, not necessarily nourishment.

Nurse first so they get the good stuff first. My LO is still eating once a day so I feed him dinner. As for when, sometime after I nurse him. Not right away...maybe like 30 minutes later. Just depends on what time it is.

Since she's been waking up at 5:30am for a feeding and then waking up for the day 2 hours later, i'm always torn as to whether i should give her breakfast or boob first.

@Sweet T: @MamaBehr: @pelikila: While i know they are supposed to get most of their nutrition from breastmilk or formula, isnt a big reason for introducing solids is that they are not getting enough iron from breastmilk alone?

I don't agree with the food for fun before one stuff. My baby had a clear need for solids starting at around 7 months. They didn't reduce her intake of breastmilk at all, so I never worried about which was first. Even now at 13 months, she'll eat a big solid meal right after breastfeeding.

@caffeinated: I view solids that way: iron-intake! (and then the extra flavours and variety of textures for fun as an additional thing)
