Wear a supportive bra (but not one that's too tight it will clog your ducts), lanolin cream (liberally), and make sure your baby is latched on correctly (s/he should have a LOT of your areola in his/her mouth). Mine were sore for the 1st 2 weeks and then my body adjusted to it.
There's also other products out there that help: shields, etc but I'm not too familiar with them. Hopefully someone else will chime in.

Keep them open to air as much as possible. I used shells in my bra for that, but if you can stay just topless a lot, do so. If you don't have lanolin on hand, expressing a little milk onto your nipples then air drying helps too. Soothies gel pads can help also. I'm sure there's a Hellobee guide on this or bf'ing in general! kellymom is also a great resource as most articles are written by LC's. Hang in there! It gets better!

I'm sorry to say but it is totally normal. Make sure LO has a correct latch and get to a lactation consultant ASAP if you aren't sure. Ice packs, air drying, lanolin, and rest will help them. At first your let down may hurt a bit too. I could count to about ten and if it still significantly hurt I knew I needed to relatch her.
The good news is that it gets SO much better and easier! Get through these 2-3 weeks and you should be feeling better.

Lanolin, lots and lots. And hot showers. A lot of people like cool compresses, I prefer warm, and lots and lots of lanolin.

Sore nipples were one of the most painful and difficult experiences of my life. It just takes time and it will get better. I also used lots of lanolin - medela tendercare lanolin is what I used.

Talk to a lactation consultant, there are also breastfeeding support groups out there through various hospitals/birthing centers- these are things I had no idea even existed out there.
My routine due to weight gain issues/high bilirubin, I've had to bf, then pump- once I'm done with the routine I will rub breastmilk on my nipples, let them air dry, then apply Lansinoh every single time (I'm terrified of having cracked/bleeding nipples).
So far no extreme soreness, just a little feeling used and abused by a certain baby's mouth.
