At my LO's four month appointment her pediatrician gave the go ahead to start rice cereal and other "solids". I was surprised she said it was ok so early. When did you start solids? What experience do you have with rice cereal?

We started at 6 months, we did not do rice cereal, we started with green beans puree, then did a few other veggies like squash, and sweet potato before trying fruit purees. I did give her oats at one point but it wasnt the boxed oat flakes, it was oat flour that I made in my blender out of steel cut oats.

My pediatrician also gave us the go-ahead at the 4-month check up. I skipped the cereal and went straight to fruits and veggies. Her first solids was butternut squash. I give her a new food every 4 days to make sure there are no food allergies/sensitivity.
ETA: We also started because LO gave us the go-ahead too! : ) She was sitting up, holding her head up, and staring at us when we were eating. So much fun to see her likes and dislikes. She loves pears and hates peas, just like her momma!

I'll be waiting until my LO gives my cues that she's ready for solids, not going by the Ped's go-ahead. I don't think it's a "one size fits all" kind of thing - every child is ready on their own time.
When we do start, we'll also be skipping the cereals and going straight to veggies, fruits, and proteins.

P is 9 months and still almost completely ebf. We completely skipped baby cereal though b/c of wheat contamination & they have soy. We started trying at 6 months once she could sit better in a seat on her own, but she couldn't have cared less about them.
She still sits with us at dinner, but we don't really try and make her eat. Right now she'll get pieces of whatever we have and play with them while we eat. Sometimes, we'll hold a piece so she can suck on it but she generally just plays with her food! lol. She likes meat the best, which a piece of steak to gnaw on was the first thing I gave her. Figured sometime high in iron would be our best bet!

We were given the okay for rice cereal at 4 months as well, but we skipped it. I'm waiting until he's 6 months old (a few more weeks!) and starting with something else...not sure what yet, maybe avocado or sweet potato.

Her ped did not Recomend until 6 months. We started 1 week shy of it due to extreme interest on her part. We skipped rice cereal and went for roasted butternut squash which she LOVED!

We started a little bit before 6 months and skipped rice cereal and went headlong into veggies and fruits. LO is now 7 months and eats all sorts of things. She doesn’t love purees and would rather eat “real food” (though she has no teeth yet), so we give her small bits of soft things she can mash with her gums. We also add oatmeal or quinoa to some purees so they have more texture and substance. She also likes puffs and yogurt melts.

We just started with rice cereal this month at 5 months. We do iy once a day, we do dinner so she can sit with us She never eats it all but she definitely likes whatever actually stays in her mouth...lol She's gotten a lot better over the past few weeks. I have skipped it a few times because she was too tired. She likes yo help me

We started at 6-months and skipped the cereal, went with veggies/fruits. She barely ate in the beginning, maybe one or two baby spoonfuls once a day. She's more interested in our food so we did a combo of purees and small pieces of food.

I got the go ahead too but we are skipping rice cereal. LO is 4.5 months and we haven't tried anything yet.

We started at 4 months and tried rice cereal one day but our pediatrician gave us the go ahead for any purees or cereals so we switched to just purees. She doesn't like the cereals but she loves almost all of the fruits and vegetables. We gave her one very, very small meal a day at four months and moved up to two meals at five months.
We had considered waiting until six months but she was showing a ton of interest in our food already and had really good head control.

We started at 4 month per recommendation by ped. Honestly DD hated it! I asked if she could have rice porridge instead and the ped was totally cool with it and DD loves it! Win win!

We were given the okay at her 4 month appointment. I gave LO her first taste of solids around 5 months (spoonful of baby oatmeal), but she didn't really start eating solids until 6 months.
