I don't know the "right" answer, but if it was me I'd switch back.

We tried switching from Similac Sensitive to Organic and it gave LO stomach problems, so we switched back after a couple days and just stayed with it until he was one and on cow's milk. We probably could have saved $$ by using generic or assuaged my non-organic guilt by trying Earth's Best, but once we found something that worked we were loathe to change anything.

@ladybee: Sadie's never had any issues switching between formulas, but some babies really do. My ped suggested a slow transition if you switch - 1/4 new formula to 3/4 old formula, then half/half, then 1/4 old and 3/4 new. Some babes just need a more subtle transition. If you still notice a problem, then I would try a different formula!

ETA: Since you're using the newborn formula, I'm assuming you're planning on switching regardless. I think the Up&Up Premium is supposed to be identical to Enfamil Infant, which would be the next step up from what you're using now.

I would not continue using it either, especially if baby is miserable and vomiting next time I would try what @photojane suggests and gradually switch. Good luck, I hope your LO feels better soon!

I'm not a fan of formula switching so I'd go back to what worked... Just from my FF experience.

I would switch back, especially at his age. I would wait until he's 3 months or so and his digestive system has sorted itself out a bit more before trying a generic. I know our LO's tummy was super sensitive to even the smallest changes before that point.

@ladybee: not a mom fail! I see this all the time... There are so many formula options out there, of course people are going to switch if things don't seem to be going well.

I think so many things that we attribute to the formula aren't always totally clearly related. Now what you are describing with the Up and Up does sound related... But whenever someone says "a little fussy", my first thought is to stay put. I would suggest picking one (whatever it may be) and working through any problems with it. So we used the enfamil infant when M first came home. We did that until the home routine was well established and then we moved to Earth's Best Organic. It was a little bumpy transitioning (as it will be with any formula switch) and my impetus might have been to switch again to something new... But we stuck with it and she did great.

So I guess what I'm saying is that it probably doesn't matter if you go back to infant or the gentlease, but just try to work through the small issues you have with either one. If you switch enough, you end up on these special elemental formulas, and that's what you want to avoid!
