So when my milk came in I noticed a lump in my armpit. It's about the size of a nut, maybe? I assume it has to do with my milk - but how do I get rid of it? I massaged it while she nursed that side but its still there.

Keep nursing. If it doesn't hurt though I wouldn't worry too much about it. I had an acorn size lump that never would go away and would never hurt though. It turned out to be nothing and worked its way away.
One thing I also learned was to look at your nipples for little white dots. Sometimes that is a sign of a clogged duct.

If it is a clogged duct then keep nursing on that side only and pump the other side until it clears up. But I agree that if it doesnt hurt it may not be a clogged duct that you need to worry about

Sometimes it hurts and sometimes it doesn't - but it's nothing crippling or anything like that. Should I try to keep massaging it too? I don't see any little dots but it appeared at the same time y milk came in?
Maybe I'll just wait it out & see what happens - I didn't get all my breastfeeding questions answered in the hospital so I'm depending on the hive for now

I had a lump in that area too. I kept massaging it before nursing, while nursing and in the shower. It went away within a day or so.

When I'd get a clog I'd massage it while taking a hot shower or while she was nursing. Hope it clears up soon!

As a side note, DS tends to latch better on the side that had the lump. It could just be a coincidence.

I had the same thing when my milk came in. I just took a warm shower and massaged it when I nursed. It was gone within a day or so.

@MusicaV: same thing here! only the past day or so she's gotten good at the left, but the right (where lump is) she's a champ.
I noticed the lump Sunday morning and it's still there. Is this bad? Maybe I'll call the pedi tomorrow..I called my OB's office with a BFing question the other day and the nurse said they are better at delivering babies than breastfeeding (??). Hopefully the pedi can offer some help..ah.

@sorrycharlie: hi, bumping this - what ended up happening/what did you do? did it go away on its own? i have a spot on my left that kind of has this pain every once in awhile, but it is not bad at all and no lump. i'm wondering if it is a plugged duct or what. LO is nursing well on both sides.

I just wanted to add that if you nurse so that the baby's chin is pointing in the direction of the lump, it can help. So lay the babe down on the bed and get on all fours so that your armpit is lined up with her chin and nurse. I've had tender lumps a couple of times and that helped.

@JessLC: I am unsure what it ended up being (definitely a duct, possibly blocked?) but I massaged while feeding and iced it. It did go away after that and hasn't been back since! if you think you have a plugged duct, MASSAGE MASSAGE MASSAGE. don't let it become mastitis, it's so miserable! I had a blocked duct so deep I didn't feel it until it was mastitis and it's been a horrible week. I now massage during every feeding out of paranoia, lol.

@glimmersnaps: thanks! Her chin normally points in the direction of the spot but its good to know how to do it if her chin doesn't point the right way.
@sorrycharlie: ouch. Sorry to hear about the mastitis! I will keep massaging it and hopefully it will go away. It hasn't been hurting in the last few hours but I am so scared about mastitis that I'm just going to massage every spot that is hurts even a tiny bit! Thanks for the advice!
