This article ended up in my FB news feed. I know that it's definitely something to not just take for face value & definitely do some research in to, but what are some other parent's initial thoughts?

I try not to read into these things too much. I feel that if we tested everything, we would find that most of our bottled and packaged products do have very dangerous things in them.

I agree that if you really researched about all the potentially dangerous chemicals found in things that you would just drive yourself crazy. I think that in general, the amounts of these chemicals are small, and in general there isn't enough research into trace exposure to be able to deduce that they will actually cause actual physical harm.

My husband avoids certain apple juice because of this. The levels of arsenic found in the tested apple juice is higher than the allowed amount even for water. My take on this is that if we don't want carcinogens in our baby products like shampoo and body wash, why should be be ok with having it in the juice our kids drink. I think they can and should make more of an effort to reduce or eliminate the arsenic in the juice.

I saw this on the news this morning.
Apparently there are different allowable amounts of arsenic for bottled water and for juice. Of the 80 juices they tested only 1 was above the allowable limit for juice, but a bunch were above the allowable limit for water. But, it kinda makes sense that the allowable limit for water is lower since you (and your kids) should drink A LOT more water than juice.
I agree you'll drive yourself crazy if you take all of these studies to heart. If you really want to know what's in all of your kids juice, you need to grow your own produce and juice it yourself, lol.
But, to be safe and healthy your best bet is to dilute the juice you give your kids.

@Mrsbells: Juice is allowed to have more arsenic in it than water. Water has MUCH tighter controls on it than juice.

Okay, I just read that article and it said juice didn't have a restriction at all - The Today Show had a COMPLETELY different story...

Yeah, according to the story I heard the allowable limit for water is 10 parts per billion, for juice the limit is 23 parts per billion...
The yahoo story said there isn't a limit on juice...very interesting.

@Navy_Mommy: Definitely makes you wonder what the actual limitations are.
@Mrsbells: I'm definitely becoming more aware of the things in products. I personally find it disturbing that known carcinogens are allowed in the products we use on a daily basis. =/

I am super crazy about limiting harmful carcinogens for me and my kids. I am one of those crazy organic buying, check the label, read the studies type of mom haha
