How old was your lo when you started three solid meals a day?
Did/do you offer milk at the same time?
My lo is 7.5mo and I don't know when to give more food.

He's starting to eat 3 meals now. He drinks milk first, then solids about 1-1.5 hrs later with a straw cup filled with water. He hasn't figured out how to drink from it yet though!

I'm interested in this too! Although Xander's also 7.5 months and he barely gets one meal a day, so I don't expect him to get three meals for a while!

We started around 9 months to do 3 meals, but I would say it wasn't consistent til 10 months. I always nursed around an hour before offering food. If he's finishing the meals you give him, you can try giving him more food! Babies are pretty good about knowing when they're full/when they want more.

@Adira: my lo and @Mrs. High Heels: are the same age as your lo.

We are 9.5 months and he gets lunch & dinner. I should add breakfast but I'm lazy so I'll have to have my mom do it when he gets to her house every morning. He drinks water with his meals, not milk!

@Adira: oops, just saw that you said "also"...I didn't mean for that to sound snarky if it did.

LO started getting 3 meals around 9 months. She doesn't always finish her third meal though. She drinks water from a straw cup with her meals. She gets milk an hour or 1.5 hr before her solids.

@Adira: @Mrs. Polish: I should also add that I'm inconsistent too, so def not getting 3 meals everyday, but on most days he's getting 2 meals.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Mrs. Polish: Not to worry! I didn't take offense. And I know Xander's a little behind in the solids department compared to other babies his age. He's just not overly interested and doesn't seem to care when we miss a meal, so he won't be at three for a while!
@hilsy85: @petunia354: I suspect Xander will be more like your babies and not get three means until 9/10 months!

@Adira: we missed solids completely this weekend because of teeth. We're usually consistent for two meals, but I can't see how to fit in three.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Mrs. Polish: I'll only be able to do three if Xander has two at daycare (breakfast and lunch) and then is AWAKE enough for dinner! Hopefully by the time I'm at 3 meals, he'll drop to 2 naps and it will be easier!
Is your LO on a schedule or do you follow the EASY routine at all? If you do EASY, can you slip in solids somewhere in there? Xander takes 3 naps a day currently, so I could do solids shortly after eating and before his next nap or bedtime.

R is 7 months and we do three meals starting last Friday. She gets a bottle at home when she wakes up, breakfast when we get to day care. Then after her noon bottle, she gets a serving of veggies. Then when we get home she usually gets a fruit and then we nurse right before bed.
Edit: Her pedi wants her on three meals and 4 bottles by 9 months.

@Mrs. Polish: hmm, I THINK I did three solids around 6-7 months but I honestly can't remember!
We introduced BLW around 6 months, though. We did fruit and cereal for bfast, veggies for lunch & BLW for dinner. We definitely had three solid meals before 12 months, though.

@Adira: I don't know what easy is, and I just found out last night that the schedule he put himself on is called 2,3,4.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Mrs. Polish: Oh, EASY is a routine - Eat, Activity, Sleep, You. So if I was going to do three meals a day, when Xander woke up for the day, I'd nurse/give him a bottle, then do a little activity, then solids, then more activity depending on timing, and then put him down for a nap. And do that three times probably.
I've heard of 2-3-4 - I WISH Xander was on that!

@Adira: sometimes I wonder why everything needs a name.

@Mrs. Polish: Not only does everything need a name, but often they need an acronym to make life REALLY confusing!

DD's Dr. said that she wanted her on 3 'meals' at 9 months. Not necessarily for the volume of food, but for the practice of eating 3x a day so at a year she's able to eat more. For the life of me I couldn't figure out how to find time to do that, but then I asked daycare if they would do breakfast and lunch, and they said yes! Magic to my ears
On the weekends: For breakfast, right after she wakes up I feed her 3 ice cubes of purees then give her the first bottle. Lunch is 2-3 ice cubes after her nap (down to 1 nap), so she's eating that around 2 - 2:30. Dinner is when we're eating (5:30 - 6:00ish) and she eats 5 ice cubes. I've just started adding some small solids to the mix for her to play with after she finishes the purees.

@Mrs. Polish: It seems like it should be so easy, but it's one of my most dreaded parenting tasks. I just wish she had all her teeth so she could eat better

We started three meals plus snacks at eight months. I feel like I spend my entire day feeding her.

@Mrs. Polish: L is almost 9 months old. I think i started offering solids 3x/day around 7-7.5 months.
He gets an afternoon snack too. Saturday through Monday he gets a morning snack, if he's cranky after offering more BM!
He gets breastmilk first, then solids about an hour later. We offer him a straw sippy with water at every meal but breakfast. (not sure why, but that's what we do.)
blogger / nectarine / 2010 posts
@Adira: ha. Our 2,3,4 has turned into a 2,3,1,2 for today. When I didn't knowthere was a name for it I didn't care, but now I tried to keep him up because of the schedule. I almost wish I didn't know.

We didn't until he seemed hungry 3x a day maybe at 8.5 months? I nurse then do meals about 2 hours later.

Baby Brother is the same age and we're on one sometimes two solid meals a day- so dinner and sometimes breakfast. (BTW he put himself on a 3-2-4 schedule). I think with Little Boy we didn't get to 3 meals until 10 months or so.

We started around 9 months, but it was under our pediatrician's advice since LO wasn't a fan of solids. Milk was offered before meals, and he would practice droning water in a cup.

9/10 months. Now, he is 12m and liquids do not fill him up whatsoever.

9 or 10 months. we added breakfast last. it was around then that I started just giving milk after he had eaten, or just before naps (we do the 2, 3, 4 nap routine too)

I think we added a third meal at nine months. I give milk around the same time, but started offering water with the meal at nine months. We don't do snacks yet (eleven months). I've tried, she's not interested unless it's boob
