While picking up LO from his caregiver today (in-home, through an agency), she mentioned that she thinks LO is still hungry after lunch and may need some more lunch or possibly a snack. No problem, that's what I have been thinking anyways (he's 11 months old).
Fast forward 2 minutes. She then tells me that she has been giving him some banana from her house (which he usually doesn't like at home, but which I am ok with) and also some small pieces of a "Belvita" bar. First of all, I had no idea what Belvita is (I learned it's like a granola-esque breakfast bar, no nuts) and second, she was giving my LO something new without asking?!
I calmly explained that I need to know what he's eating in case there are any reactions, and also that I would prefer for him to eat the food I provide. She seemed to not even process why this was a problem (she kept focusing on the fact that she was giving him small pieces) and did not seem to be concerned that this bothered me.
We have loved our caregiver all along (he's been the since he was 3 months old), but I cannot wrap my head around why she thought this was ok. In the grand scheme of things, I know I do not have control over everything, but this just hit me like a ton of bricks today. Perhaps I was never clear with her about my expectations (I didn't realize I had to explain this!) but I am going to reinforce this on Monday.
