Do you volunteer at LO's school?
I'm waiting for my paperwork to get cleared, but once it does I can't wait to help in anyway I can. I know how hard teachers work, so I'm happy to help lighten a load. Plus, I selfishly want to see what LO is up to.

Fun! I'm trying to help the teacher to arrange for a helper in class at least once a week. She said she needs help even just tearing out workbook pages for the kids!

We have to do at least ten hours per year!
ETA dh and grandma chaperone or drive at least dd to field trips. I do scholastic orders with two other moms for the school. We have a school clean up day coming up and sometimes sign up for other events. They usually have online sign ups. Love the parent participation in the school.

We are required to be parent helpers once a month (parent co-op preschool), and I also volunteered to be on the parent council that runs it, which has been a ton of work, but which I've enjoyed. I've only volunteered in the classroom once, and it was the first day, so now that the year is under way, I'm looking forward to seeing what a more typical day is like for LO.

I was class mom so I did a lot last year. I didn't volunteer for that again. I'll just do regular volunteering at the school events for this year.

Yes. I'm a class helper. I'll do most anything the teacher or room mom need done.

My kiddos aren't in grade school yet, but I plan to when they do! Not sure how that'll work with work, but I would love to be there for field trips and holiday parties!

Ours is a co-op. I work in the classroom once a month. I'm also on the board.

Dh goes in once a week and helps the teacher with whatever she needs - he isn't in the classroom though, he sits in the hallway (guess they don't want the distraction)
I help out on the Ecology club because I like that stuff =)

Our preschool is a co-op, so you're expected to volunteer 10+ hrs a year, I think. Most of the things aren't actually in-class help, though. They have a "materials making" day a couple times a year where the parents meet separately in a conference room and prepare materials for future lessons, we sign-up to wash (but not fold! ha) laundry from the school a handful of times a year, we bring in fresh flowers for the kids to do flower arrangements, etc.

@regberadaisy: ours has things the parents can do at home - ask and see if you can do some like that!

I'm hoping to! I indicated that I'm interested in helping with pizza lunch but haven't heard yet. I'm off on may leave this year so I'd like to be in there.

@Boogs: I'll try to remember! There were a lot of things, but here are some of the main ones: I communicated a lot of information to the parents for the teachers about class events. I organized volunteers for class parties and school events, like if someone needed to bake a cake or man a booth for sports day. I collected money for the class fund and kept track of that throughout the year to make sure we had enough money. If parents had questions about what was going on, they could come to me first. A few parents wanted the teachers to send emails out about what the kids were doing in class so I requested that. The school's biggest fund raiser is at Xmas time and we all spent a few months preparing for that. I organized coffee mornings for the parents to get together and chat. Also collected money for and bought gifts for the teachers at Xmas time and the end of the year. Organize class parties. At least once a month there were 3-4 hour long PTA meetings at night to go over all school business and I really dreaded those!
There are also specific tasks that vary by grade. This year (1st grade) the class moms have to start organizing a play that the kids put on the first week of 2nd grade. I heard that they start doing this in the spring time for a September performance so I was like "I'm out!!!"

@Andrea: Wow! Way too much for me, too, so I don't blame you for passing the buck!

@Mamaof2: maybe when she's older. In the PreK it all involves being there during regular working hours.
