I've used nipple shields since day 1 and while I don't mind them, I worry about LO's latch because he doesn't have to latch as deeply with one (and luckily they block most of the damage for me) and I didn't want to get into a habit that I couldn't fix later that might damage my supply.

Well T has been getting into fussy fits lately that only extra nursing will soothe. He had one and I tried to give him a binky to hold him over while I got my boppy and shield ready (slightly annoying) but that only made him angrier. I hurried and got him to my breast but he tasted that silicone of the shield and I think he thought I was offering the pacifier again and got REALLY angry. So I tossed it aside and just shoved my breast in. He got confused at first but it worked! He was actually latched deeply. Not perfectly, but deeper and much closer to correct than we've ever been. Nursed for a solid 20 minutes as usual! I'm so happy we made progress! I didn't think we would be able to ditch the shields for a while.

I tried later without the shield on my right side but it didn't work that time. But it's okay. I feel more confident about trying to wean off the shields.

Just wanted to share my BFing win with my bees!
