I could have seriously written this post. I am in the same predicament as you. It feels like there's no end in sight. Argh! Subscribing. Hope other moms have great tips to share

We are night weaning but don't co-sleep. The first few nights DH had to go in. I can go in now but she still wants the breast most times. She flips out for 3 seconds - 2 minutes typically and I offer her snuggles and water. She's fine as long as I am consistent. I think having your husband take over nights somehow for a few days will be key, otherwise I would have given in!

One thing that worked for me (it was a slow process!) was letting him watch a lullaby video in bed when he'd wake up and ask to nurse. There's a great YouTube video called lullabies to get babies to sleep, it's really soothing and the images are just repeating patterns. Anyway, it was a process. I decided that if he woke up before, say, 3, I wouldn't nurse him then I'd push the hour up little by little. Sometimes he'd fuss, sometimes it would take a long time to go back to sleep, and if he was really upset I'd nurse him. So for us it was an eventual process but now he sleeps through the night, and he doesn't nurse between bedtime and 6 am. His bed is in our room, but we've effectively night-weaned. I just made it a slow and gentle transition, and it worked for us. Good luck!

I night weaned my older DS around 15 or 16 months while co sleeping. What worked was just choosing a time when I was on with him nursing. Anything before that I would just offer milk in a sippy cup and turn my back to him in bed. It took about a week before he stopped looking for the boob and a month or two before he stopped asking for milk completely. My younger DS is just finally able to drink milk now at 16 months so we'll try something similar soon. He is much more attached to the boob and off the pacifier so it might be harder. My friend weaned after 2 and reintroduced the pacifier in order to do it.

We moved E to his crib with N in June. Up until then he slept with us and nursed overnight. The first few nights were rough but I still nurse him to sleep and have DH put him in bed. The key for us was it not being me who placed him in his crib. He has been sleeping overnight all the way through (10:30-8:30) the night now. No wake ups. Now if my toddler could just get the memo.

I night weaned my co-sleeping daughter around 12-13 months. She was waking up 3-6+ times to nurse and I was done. I started by setting a time (3am) and would not nurse if she woke up before then. I would offer water, rub her back, sing to her, etc to comfort but no nursing. After a few days I pushed the time back an hour, and continued to do this until there was no nursing until wake up. Not going to lie, it was a ROUGH few weeks. She previously would nurse and then go right back to sleep, and while we night weaned she would sometimes be up for 1-2 hours. After a few weeks passed she was fine and started occasionally sleeping through the night or having just one wake up.

But what worked for both of my kids... and what we are currently still working on with my 12 month old daughter, is we moved them to a floor bed in their room. My DH set up a little bed next to theirs and slept in their room for a few weeks. He would soothe them back to sleep when they woke and at first they would be up 1-2 hours and cry, but once they realized they weren't getting mama anymore, started sleeping thru the night. Being away from the source was what got them to stop nursing at night.
