Were you at your ideal weight before you got pregnant?

I was about 8 pounds above where I am usually; however, it's not technically my ideal weight. (Which is a surprising 115...which I don't think I've weighed since junior high.) Thankfully I've only gained about 20 or 25 pounds with this pregnancy. I miss running with my husband the most.

No. I was probably 5-10 lbs under my ideal weight when we started TTC, but it was a long year, and I had several months of "Not pregnant yet? F*ck it, I'm eating another brownie." except it was pretty often.

I'm probably around 30 lbs over my ideal weight now....I refuse to step on a scale so I'm just guesstimating. I haven't cared much until recently (or was too focused on E to really notice) but I've hit a point where I'm not comfortable with my body.

With my first, yes. I was 138 and felt really good. With my second, no. I was around 165 (I put on 15 from stress eating about 3 months before getting pregnant) I felt terrible about myself. The good part is I gained less so I was around the same end weight with both pregnancies.

Yes, I was still going to the gym on a regular basis.

Yep! I worked my butt off to get to my ideal weight for our wedding and then got pregnant almost immediately after lol. At least I looked good for the honeymoon!

No. This pregnancy was a complete surprise. I'm about 40 pounds overweight and had always planned to lose weight before we tried to get pregnant.

The only upside, though, is that getting pregnant has really motivated me to improve my eating habits! I'm 15 weeks and have lost 11 pounds since finding out.

Well, this thread has got me looking back at pics when I was at my ideal weight. Wish I didn't do that.

Why are women so obsessed with skinniness? ARGH! I don't want to look at old pics and start to hate myself. I want to be happy!

I was 110lbs and satisfied with my weight. I am now a few pounds over but pregnant with my second so not too bad.

@MrsBrewer: I lost 10 pounds before getting pregnant, however, it made my period really wonky for a month. I got pregnant the next cycle. I wasn't exactly where I wanted to be, but I had created a good foundation for fitness and moving during early pregnancy. Thankful I did it.

I'm ttc now and about 15lbs over my goal weight...I need to work on that!

For my first yes, for this one, no. I still had about 10lbs to go then I got pregnant. It wasnt a priority for me to reach my ideal weight. But now I will have my work cut out for me after LO #2 shows up!

You ladies are really making me want to work out!! I don't want to be this far away from my ideal weight

I was okay with my weight, but it was about 10 lbs from where I wanted to be. I had been eating better, exercising more (adding gym/BarreAmped to my regular running routine), and was seeing real change in my body, and then I got pregnant and it all went out the window. I'm gaining appropriately at 20.5 weeks, so I'm not worrying about it.

Nope. I was at my ideal weight right before our wedding in November 2011. Then we went on our honeymoon and the holidays happened and by the time I got pregnant in May of last year, I had stopped exercising and stopped being so vigilant about what I was eating, and weighed about 10 pounds more than I wanted to.

Now, I weigh 30 pounds more than I want to at 15 weeks pp.

I was...I was in the best running shape of my life just before I got pregnant. I'd like to eventually get back there!

I was completely happy with my weight at the beginning of my 1st pregnancy. I gained 29lbs and it all came off quickly, I credit breastfeeding. I'm thinner now for the start of my 2nd pregnancy, but not as fit, I'm just hoping the extra weight will slide off like it did with #1.

I had about 7lbs to lose to get to my ideal weight pre-preg, which I wanted to do. It didn't happen beforehand, but morning sickness through week 15 or so made sure that weight fell off anyway!

Pretty close to it, but still a little above it. I still have a ways to go to get back there!

I was about 5-10 pounds from my ideal (depending on what day you asked me).

Now that I'm almost 4 months post partum, I would do just about anything to be there again!

I was okay with my weight when I got pregnant, gained 55 while pregnant, still have 10 lbs to go but my body LOOKS so different- I still look pregnant. So my goal now is to lose 30 lbs before NTNP when DD turns 1 in August. Probably not going to happen, huh?

Gosh no! I got KU at 238. 2.3.8! I wish it would have happened when I was fit at 150 with 12% ish body fat. BUT I'm going to the gym now with the hope of not gaining to much & so labor & recovery may be easier for me. All that matters at this point is that we have a healthy LO.

I am continuing to TTC while getting to my ideal weight. I am not going to let anything else come before TTC. Since we first started trying I have lost 50 pounds but have still not fallen pregnant. So I guess all I can do is lose more weight so I hopefully get pregnant when I reach my ideal weight and then have a baby and get to lose it all over again? Not sure if my thinking is rational.

We didn't TTC, this pregnancy kind of happened by accident BECAUSE of my weight loss (it can really screw with your hormones, mix things up). I had lost 70+ of the 95-100 lbs. I was working on losing. Hoping to get back on the bandwagon when I'm done nursing.

I was at a good weight but not fit. After DD turned 2 I lost the baby weight and also got fit and felt great. I then got pregnant with DS haha. I'm back down to my original weight pre babies but am working on getting fit!

@MrsBrewer: Girl, I was probably 40 pounds off my ideal weight. I didn't want to wait a year to have a baby so that I could lose weight - life is short - so we just went for it. I had no problems TTC and a healthy pregnancy & baby. If you want to lose weight, then go for it! BUT, don't put so much pressure on yourself!

  30. mrsbookworm

    pear / 1823 posts

Definitely not. In fact, I weigh less now 7 weeks after having a baby than I did when I got pregnant.

@photojane: awww you are too sweet! Well right now, DH is job searching, and if he gets a new job making more than what he's at now. I think we might start trying at the end of the year! So I'm just focusing between now and then on getting healthy! I'm not going to put a number on it though. I've come to that conclusion.

    cantaloupe / 6164 posts

@MrsBrewer: Good plan! I know you've wanted to TTC for a while... I'm hoping/praying everything falls in place for you soon. The end of the year is only 5 months away -- I'm so excited for you!!

@photojane: Lol I have been waiting forever! I seriously can't wait! I feel like I've been a member on here the longest who doesn't have a LO or TTC yet!

Nooope. Getting pregnant in September meant I never had time to lose my summer weight in the fall and winter! I was about 10 more than my ideal weight. And almost 20 more than my lowest on Weight Watchers. I don't think I will ever get back there though!

  36. Grace

    cantaloupe / 6730 posts

I was 20 lbs over according to my scale and 40 lbs over according to my doctors (I choose to believe in my scale ;. ). It did take a year to get pregnant, but whether that's to do with overweightedness or not, I don't know. So, I say, for sure work on getting healthy (because you'll just feel better), but if you don't lose the whole 45, remind yourself that you lost 5 or 10 or 20, 'cause that's awesome too.

I was my ideal weight (although DH thought I was too thin). I think this time around I may not be MY ideal weight but I'm much healthier and taking care of myself so I think it'll make for a better pregnancy.

  39. MrsRcCar

I was not at my ideal weight, not even close. Now however I am about 15 pounds away from my ideal weight. Having N has got me motiviated to get healthy and drop weight.

  40. daniellemybelle

    cantaloupe / 6669 posts

Definitely not, and I'm sad about it! I was about 50 lbs over my ideal weight, and at my heaviest ever, when we got pregnant. I've since gained another 10 lbs (24 weeks) and so I am going to have AT LEAST 60 lbs to lose, probably quite a bit more... I'm hoping breastfeeding will help with the first bit, and then I'm going to join WW. I'm committed to at least getting within the healthy range for my height (30 lbs lighter than pre-pregnancy).
