I recently started cycling through my freezer stash and have had at least 4 storage bags leak while defrosting. So annoying! They vary in stored volume (generally 4-6 oz) so I don't think I'm overfilling them. I use Lansinoh but am seriously considering switching.

Do you lay your bags down flat? I stopped having leaky bags after I started laying them flat to freeze.

@banana: I lay them flat to freeze and then once they're frozen I store them standing upright. I must be doing something wrong, I just wish I knew what it was!

I use Lansinoh. I freeze and store flat. I haven't had to defrost any yet, but have to toss some because of antibiotics and thrush, so I'll try defrosting to let you know.
I remember reading on the boards that someone recommended defrosting them in the fridge in a bowl so the milk could still be used, as opposed to in warm water and contaminating it?

I've tried medela, lansinoh and playtex. Lansinoh have always been the best for us. They store the most, freeze flat nicely, no leaks so far.

I use Lansinoh and haven't had a problem yet... although I don't have a use for thawed milk on a daily basis. I second the thawing the milk in a bowl in the fridge first to use any leaked milk.

I bought the Target Up & Up...hopefully they don't suck! My sister said she read a post on another site about them leaking, but I have to freeze all of my milk and I want to find a cheap (ish) option.
I've also seen Honeysuckle on Amazon...they sell a 300 pack or something like that. Has anyone tried theM?

I use the mothers milk mate reusable bottles! They seemed like a better option than bags and 11 months in they have been great!

I use the Lansinoh bags and haven't had a leak. I freeze mine flat in a tupperware container before stacking them upright, so maybe that helps? There are fewer sharp corners to bump on things/tear the bags because the bag isn't stretched into a weird shape.
I've also used a Korean brand called JACO (not sure how widely available these are). They were a little small compared to Lansinoh, but are made of a thicker, more brittle material that you might prefer.

I've used them all! Ameda and Lansinoh are my favorites! I had a few leaks with Lansinohs when they didn't freeze flat.

I use Lansinoh. We have had a few leaks, but I think that there will be a few leaks no matter which brand you use.

I have tried a bunch and my favorite are honeysuckle brand. You can buy on amazon. I have had 2 leaks in 1 year. They are also bio degradable which is a plus. I froze flat and store standing.

@banana: i defrost them in the fridge. I pull one out first thing in the morning and use it for the last feeding of the night.

Oh wow, I'm feeling like a slacker - I've always just used a regular old ziploc bag to freeze my milk. An ice cube tray to get it to frozen state and then they get thrown in a gallon size ziploc bag.

@betsyboop: I only did it because I'm a cheap arse, lol! Mayo Clinic apparently recommends not using everyday storage bags though so maybe I'm not a good example to follow here. That being said, we've been doing it for four months and LO is fine, so who knows!?

I started out using Medela but they didn't hold much and I felt like I lost some of the milk to the sides of the bag when I defrosted. So, I switched to Lasinoh, which hold a lot. But then I had the leaking bag issue a few times when I defrosted - I laid flat to freeze and then stood upright I think my issue may have been overfilling the bag (I put like 10 oz in a bag).

i use lansinoh then switched to honeysuckle...i haven't had to defrost any frozen milk yet, so i can't speak to leaks. but i like the honeysuckle ziplock better. feels more secured. although i feel like lansinoh can fit more milk.

@rrachael: they recommend 4 oz each to freeze but can hold up to 5. i am now done pumping but they worked out great for us.

Bumping cause I was looking this up.
I've been using medela but they don't hold much and I find I can't get them to freeze flat. Plus they are sooooo expensive! I got some free samples of lansinoh with my breast pads and like them way more. I just wish I hadn't stocked up on medela. I still have 50 bags to go through.....
Regardless, I haven't had either bags leak on me yet!

I used the Target brand ones for 5 months and LOVED them. Cheapest, and never had any problems, even though I filled them up as much as possible, probably overfilling them (10+ ounces).

I'm using Lansinoh and haven't defrosted any of my frozen stash, but I'm praying they don't leak when I do! I've freezed quite a bit so I'll be upset if they do. Maybe when I defrost them in the fridge, I'll put them in a bowl just in case...

I'm a donor mama (I freeze ~20oz a day), and every one of my donees brings Up & Up bags to replenish my bag stash (it's common courtesy in the donating world). They all say they're the only bags that don't leak on them!
