My 3 1/2 month old daughter refuses the bottle. Any advice on the best bottle to use and tips to get her to take a bottle. How long did it take to get your baby to take a bottle?

Mine pretty much rejected every bottle out there from 7 weeks on. At 7.5 months she still hates bottles but she will take a sippy cup. I don't know if there is a best bottle, I think you just have to keep trying different things until you find something that works. Don't worry, in the end she will take something!

We used breastflow and they worked for us so I don't know about others. My husband would give her the bottles when I was elsewhere, she sometimes would refuse a bottle if I was around.

MAM finally worked for us. I think Mrs. Jacks has a blog post specifically about different techniques to try.

@Mrs. Jacks: I recommend trying MAM to all of my friends that BF and want to give a bottle occasionally or are going back to work. I remembered your recommendation on WB and tried it when we weren't having success with anything else and lo and behold, magic!

We used the medela calma and my LO seemed to like it. you'll probably have to experiment until you find something your LO likes.

Mine started rejecting the bottle at 5-6 weeks and is just now getting the hang of it at 11 weeks. She still rejects it from me sometimes when we are out of the house, but will take it just fine from DH or me when we're at home.
I tried a bunch of different bottles and the ones that seem to work for us are the Comotomo and mOmma bottles. We ended up choosing the mOmma because they are easier to warm the milk in.

my LO rejected bottles since she was 6 weeks old. we just started getting her to take them for the first time with no crying beforehand just yesterday (14 weeks). she likes the lansinoh mOmma bottles.

@JessLC: I think I owe you a big thank you actually. We tried the mOmma per your recommendation.

MAM worked great for my bottle striker after she rejected Dr. Brown's.

@SLR: aw, you're welcome!! i am glad i could help the only thing i don't like is that the bottle has that shelf at the top so there is always milk leftover when she is done. they need to fix that, asap.

We had the most success with brestflow bottles. By 8 months or so he would only take a cup though, no bottle. Luckily by that point it didn't seem to matter much.

We use Playtex drop-ins. The nipple shape was very similar to the "soothie" pacifier she had at the hospital and that she's used ever since. I think that helped to reduce any confusion that might have gone on.
LO didn't love the bottle at first and kind of pushed it around with her tongue and mashed it but after just a couple days at daycare she eats from the bottle like a champ. It really helped for someone other than me to give her the bottle. I think when I would try she would just think, "Um, your boobs are right there! Why are we not doing this how I like it?". So sometimes it takes another person or some time and perserverance. Good luck - lots of good suggestions here:)

Commenting to follow. I don't know which bottles to put on our registry!

I personally think it's best to try one style of bottle first after your baby has nursing established and then experiment with different ones until you find the one that works best for your little one if that style doesn't work . Having someone else give the bottle and giving a bottle consistently (even if its just once a day or every other day) can be more successful for some babies rather than just assuming they don't like a certain bottle type if they reject it from you.
If you register for one type on your registry and your baby doesn't like that nipple style at all... You are stuck with a bunch of bottles. If you just buy 1 of maybe 1-3 nipple styles beforehand, then once you figure out which to invest in you won't have wasted any money or bottles that were given as a gift but not needed.
That said, we had the best success with the playtex drop-ins with the latex nipple (totally rejected all silicone nipples I tried, including the Madela nipples and the Mam and Tommy nipples). For my cousin's baby, she preferred the narrow evenflo nipples (also latex) that come with the glass bottle. I would have preferred the silicone nipples as they are easier to clean, but my little guy did not agree!
Because we didn't have to use bottles for childcare and I nursed most of the time, he eventually rejected the bottle completely at about 8 mos, but because he could drink water from a sippy I started leaving him with BM in a sippy after he wouldn't take a bottle anymore. Then about a year old, he wouldn't take BM from a sippy either and would just hold out and eat solids only with whoever he was with (either his dad or grandparents usually) and then wait to nurse when I got back. Having only 3 bottles on hand was sufficient for this kind of back up. If I had needed them for daycare, then I probably would have bought more.
