I know this is going to vary tremendously based on area, but wondering what the average is on the bee.
We are definitely at the low end at only about $450/month for full-time (40 hrs), in-home in Iowa. We pay $2/hour.

$860 per month for a center. We're going to have to figure out something when #2 gets here.

Wow, we pay $880 for two days a week for our son's daycare! We are in NY, just outside of NYC, so I know our cost of living is sky high!!

If they were in day care it would be $1950/month until 18 months and then $1800/month until age four.
Hence I'm home for a little while. A nanny is about $2500 per month.

Ooops - I voted wrong! I was thinking $880/month, but it's actually $950 - I was close!

$1010 - combination of grandmacare, MDO (2 days a week), and a nanny (3 days a week).

$1,643 full time. It will drop about $200 a month come August. We will get a 10% discount, I think, on the lowest room when we have two.

We haven't started yet, but it will be $1050/month for a fulltime infant at a center. We live in CT.

$935 for full time (730-430) for my preschool aged DS.
$1K for infant
Eta: we're in Houston and it includes 1 afternoon snack only

For just D, it's $820/month. Once we enroll Babygirl, it'll be $1680/month for both. (I voted based on just D, since you asked about one child).
ETA: We're in Central PA.

We are at just about $500/month for one 5 days a week. We pay weekly, but it averages about this a month.

Looks like my poll should've gone higher!
Its crazy to see how much it varies based on location!

A little over $700 ($179/wk) for full-time preschool, includes 2 meals and a snack. When he was in the younger classes it was more per week.

Ours just went down because she moved into a class with a higher ratio.
We pay $845 now per month for full time (7am-6pm) plus another $50ish for the meal plan.
apricot / 448 posts
We only pay part time (85 per week for 3 days of care) but if we paid full time, it would be around 600-700 per month. We drive about 20 minutes further outside of the city (and we already live in the burbs) for this center because we know the director. The original daycare we were enrolled in was 1250 per month:

Well.... With our two kiddos, we've tried about every option except in-home, because I don't know of any in-homes in our town.
-Full day daycare in our town for 1 kid $2000-$2350, depending on center.
-$2500+ for full time nanny for 1 kid
-In the small town where I work, an hour away from where I live, full time is about $1300 for one kid.
I live just outside NYC and commute to the far northern part of NJ.

We pay $703.50 on average a month. We're billed 33.50 a day, and most months have 21 weekdays I think. This is in Halifax, NS.

I'm surprised at some of these prices. Full time daycare by my old work averaged about $2000-$2300 for 0-2 years.

It varies per month because it's based on days, but between $525-575. In home in Quebec, Canada.
And the government subsidizes it up to a max of 75% (based on income).

Ugh. $1776 for a month. I'm in Boston. I clearly made poor life choices and need to move.

At a more fancy franchised or modern center with more amenities, $1200+.
At the one K's at, just under $1000.

Our daycare is $880/child so I voted based on that. We negotiated extra hours (7am-6pm) for $910 I think. We're at an in home in the Bay Area that includes all food (+ she sends food home about once a week).
If we wanted to we could easily spend $2000/kid at a center.

I'm in Northern VA (DC suburbs) and pay $355 a week for a center, so a month with 4 weeks is $1420; a month with 5 is $1775. Lord knows what we're going to do when baby #2 gets here.

$1320 includes meals at our fulltime center.
We hope to switch soon though, and then it will be $1518 and meals will cost extra. That price is for Temple members -- it would be $1,802 if we weren't! (this explains why some non-Jews pay for temple membership!!)
pomegranate / 3438 posts
We pay $1,196 for our almost 4 year old (monthly rate is $1,220 but we get a discount for enrolling in auto withdrawal). When we have an infant we will be adding $1,800/month.

@josina: $450 a MONTH!? Wow! Our center is $1750/month and I am also in the midwest.

€290/month/kid full time for a private center. Public centers are free. Daycare is subsidized here by high taxes.

$550/month for in-home for a FT preschool age child.
I live in the Midwest, but outside of the metro area. Anywhere closer to the cities is substantially more expensive.

@wrkbrk: Benefits of small town living I guess!
If he were in a center it would be closer to $585 a month. Our price includes all food and wipes. Can't complain!

DD is $1,645 a month and DS is $1,340 a month. We get 10% discount off DS. FWIW, I think our prices are great for our area, we paid a LOT more at our last daycare. Over $2k for infant care.

2k for a toddler in full time Montessori daycare in Boston.
Sadly, this is actually a good deal here. Full time infant rates in my area have gone above 3k per month at some centers now.
