I've only ever done a basic cradle hold for both of my girls, from newborn to weaning. I tried other positions but they just felt awkward to me.
Is there a position you prefer? Did you switch it up once your LO got older?

Cross cradle. I tried doing football hold a couple times when LO was really tiny but it wasn't so comfy. Sometimes I nurse laying down, but we don't cosleep often and now when I try to lay her on our bed, she gets too excited and wants to crawl around the bed and pull up on the headboard, lol

Well I never really could position him much with my arms. More like lay him in my lap with his head on a pillow and just keep him from rolling away. Big boobs. Lol
We did have side lying mastered though. That would have to be my favorite.

When he was little and had latch issues, I loved football because I could control his head and mouth better. Then we've stuck to cradle for a long time, except now in the mornings I love having him in bed side lying. It lets me keep my eyes closed and get some cuddles.

I really like lay back nursing and side laying. DD2 is still too little for those positions so we mostly do cradle and football.

It took me awhile to get cradle hold down. We did football for a long time. As she got older I prefered cradle hold. Sometimes side lying was good but that also took a while

At my breastfeeding class last week, the PHN suggested that we switch positions at least once per day to ensure that the milk ducts on the other side were getting drained. She said it helps to prevent clogged ducts and supply issues.

@oliviaoblivia: when DD2 gets here I hope to figure out lay back nursing! I never even tried with DD1

Cradle and sidelying... side lying was a lifesaver with DS

the football hold would reduce the pain a lot for me in the first month!

We do cradle now, but for a really long time we did football because that's the easiest position to tandem nurse in. Yesterday Blake was fussy about nursing and he ended up settling into football and I choked up! Flashback to my little five pound baby first learning to nurse! Also, now Alice prefers I sit on the floor against the couch and she'll just cruise over and snack standing up whenever she feels like it. This child, I swear.

I get crazy with it for DD, lately it's been her sitting in my lap and nursing sitting up. So easy! Ha! I could have never done that with DS.

Cross cradle or football right now because she's so tiny I have to hold her neck & my boob. Def cradle once she has more control!

Cross cradle. I never mastered any other positions. Sometimes we did side laying when she got a little older.

Mostly cross cradle when he was little. Now it's cradle or him just laying on the pillow with both of my hands free. Occasionally we do side laying.
