We are TTC. We have been since last June/July and we have faced secondary IF. We are doing a round of monitored clomid this cycle and hopeful that something will happen soon, but of course, we just don't know...
We have to decide about day care for next year for our non-(yet)existent LO. We would want him/her to go to the same daycare as our older LO and the registration is now. We would have to pay a non-refundable registration fee of $275 to hold a space for Baby for next Spring. If we didn't, it is likely we wouldn't get a spot. If we did, and we didn't get pregnant in the next 2-3 months, it would be wasted money, because you register for summer separately. Ugh. This is so hard! And makes me even more frustrated with our IF.

I would talk to the director and explain the IF dilemma and see if they'll work with you or roll over the fee

@blackbird: I did. They said they are happy to hold the spot for us but the fee is not refundable. They have a long waiting list....

They don't give existing family preference? I know our daycare gives higher priority to families that are already attending.

I'd pay - $275 in the big scheme of things to make sure you have child care if you need it seems worth it to me.

That seems pretty crappy that they wouldn't refund the money...they will be able to find another child to fill that spot if they have a waiting list. I would probably do it if I loved the center enough but I wouldn't be happy about it.

I don't think the 275$ will be a big hit in the grand scheme of finding good childcare. However, the paranoid/on edge/superstitious side of me during TTC would probably make me hold off on the deposit. It's just how I mentally work during the TTC process, even though it has no bearing on when BFP happens.

If I loved the daycarr and really wanted future baby to go there, I'd risk losing the $275. Infant spots are hard to come by in our area.

@mrsjyw: I'm the same way. I know it doesn't really affect anything, but paying $$ to save a spot for my unborn child would totally jinx me and I wouldn't get pregnant.

I would pay the money if you're not on a super tight budget, BUT I would just be extra upset if it didn't happen this cycle.

Since it seems like they admit every season, I'd wait, and if you do get pregnant I'd look into a short term child care situation before the next admission entry. My daughter's daycare only has 1 entry date so in that case I'd pay the fee, but if your lo could get in during the summer Rather than the spring that's a short time to need to find a back up situation

The daycare waiting list situation is pretty crazy in my area, so if it's a place I like, there aren't better options, I would just put the deposit in.

Well, I wouldn't pay it because that's a lot of money to us to lose BUT I did want to pop in and say that regardless of what you decide I hope this cycle is successful for you guys!!

I would not pay since you are not pregnant yet. But I would pay for the very next session the moment you do get your BFP. Sorry about the dilemma

I find it a bit harsh that the daycare will not be more flexible. If there waiting list is so long, then they will have no problem filling the spot if you don't use it. Just seems like they could be a bit more accommodating.

seems like if they are so booked that there is a waiting list, then they could have you pay the $275 now and since you're a existing family, roll it over to the next session and free up the spot and easily fill it if you don't get pregnant. i don't know what i would do....

@travellingbee: that is a crappy policy IMHO. But also make sure that you take maternity leave into account. I'm only taking 8 weeks, but that is a couple of months

I wouldn't pay. I would just figure if I actually got pregnant in that window that I'd figure something out.

I wouldn't pay it. Even if you got pregnant right now, between the 9 - 10 months of pregnancy and (I assume) 2 to 3 months of maternity leave, you wouldn't even need the daycare until next summer.
