For that long, if cuddles and soothing or distractions didn't work, they should have called DH to come get her. He works closer to the daycare.

I'd imagine they'd give tons of snuggles and try to distract him.....but I'd hope they'd call me if it went on for more than 30-40 min.

It's totally possible the daycare DID call the parents and the parents chose not to pick him/her up early, right?

My daycare usually assumes the kid is sick if they can't be cajoled, hugged, whatever after a reasonable period of time. Also, you don't know that the kid had been sobbing that hard for 2+ hours - they could have been pitching a fit off and on and just been in a generally cranky mood.

I got called to pick up my kid one day who was NOT sick and still had to keep him home for 24 hours the next day because he was fussier than usual all day and really unhappy and the daycare people were like "we think he's sick." Sorta the flip side story, but yeah, my folks call.

They would try cuddling/ consoling/ engaging the child. If the crying doesn't stop, call the parents to pick up. But as @Adira: mentioned unless the child has a fever, they don't *have* to go home.

@gingerbebe: My son's school also called once saying he wasn't himself, was very weepy all day. He didn't have a fever, but they made it seem like I should pick him up. So I did. And he was totally fine. And I was annoyed, lol.

@winniebee: Ugh, its so annoying. They were like "he has a 99 point something temperature." I was like that's not a fever! And when I got there he had his fleece on and it was 74 degrees outside! He was probably just hot!

@mediagirl: How did you know she was crying for so long? Did they tell you?

2 hours straight of crying is a LONG time. To be fair though, maybe they did try to comfort her and it just wasn't helping or making it worse (this happens with my DD sometimes).

But yea they should have called. When I drop my kids off when I know they are a bit off I try to reiterate, PLEASE call me if they are just miserable.

ugh. this makes me so sad. we had my son at a daycare (now at a different, better one) and when i came he was crying and they were just like "he's been like this for a long time, he won't stop" but they had him like sitting by himself in a loud gym full of 5 year olds running around (he was 2 at the time). well no shit he's crying, he's probably scared and you left him by himself, assholes. but yeah, that's not okay. i definitely said something. and then when a few other things happened, we pulled him out.
