And which brand did you like best? My LO will be 7 months old next week and her pediatrician says we can introduce a sippy cup soon. I'm hoping she may drink more water this way

I think it was right around 7 mo for us. We tried all kinds.. Nuby, platex, Nuk.. The take and toss is what we use now daily...Those
Other valved ones seemed hard for him to suck.

We started with water somewhere around 6 months. But she didn't really get the hang of it until 8 months.

@T-Mom: Oh I see... does take and toss mean they are disposable?
@IcebergMom: Oh ok thanks. My LO hasnt got the hang of water either

@Mrsbells: Keep offering and eventually it will work. My daughter liked ice water! Now at 16 months she drinks water every day and sometimes I make it extra yummy but making it 1/2 juice (cranberry or apple) and 1/2 water.

@IcebergMom: Glad to hear she got the hang of it eventually. We've been introducing water lately and he doesn't care for it at all!

@Mrsbells: yeah, they are disposable but last a long time, and are bpa free. I don't really know anyone who really throws their take and toss cups away unless something happens to them. But actually, in terms of taking water, LO did best with an open cup, its just messy..

We just started last week - 6 months. She doesn't really get much, but the water intake isn't as important as learning how to manipulate the cup at this point. We've tried a Tommee Tippee, Munchkin, and some kind of straw cup (can't remember which). She likes the straw cup best.

I am trying now at 8 months but he prefers drinking out of a cup! a lot messier and more involved on my end but he will not drink from a sippy.

@c.sassy: Can she hold the cup? My son is almost 6 months and can't hold a cup or bottle on his own yet. So I'm thinking he's not ready yet?

@winniebee: She kind of can. She does better with the straw cup because it doesn't have to be tilted. It's just another skill to learn. I think you could introduce the sippy without him having that skill. Lots of the moms I've talked to IRL said it wasn't until at least 7-8 months before their LO figured out the holding and drinking enough to get a few sips themselves.

We started at the 6 month mark, and gave her a straw cup (Zoli). It took her a couple of weeks but now she drinks from it like a pro. She goes NUTS when i put the cup in front of her! The straw cup is also good because it works the same muscles needed to chew on food.
@winniebee: i would still give it to him for him to play with. You'll be surprised by how quickly they get the hang of it.
