Like for them to use? As early as 10 months I gave it to her. Probably around 11 months I would occasionally at the end of meals put food on it and let her feed herself. This past week (13 months) I am giving it to her at almost every meal to feed herself. I put food on it and let her feed herself.

My son wanted a spoon to hold when we started purees, so around 6 months, I gave him one to hold onto. By age 8 months, he was shoveling his food into his mouth on his own and I'd say he'd completely mastered utensils by a year.

I give it to him on occasion but the food ends up everywhere. 12 months old.

I tried a month or two ago (she was about 11-12 months) but she makes such a huge mess that I dont give it to her anymore. she is 13 months now

@regberadaisy: We've been doing this lately, as well. He was showing serious interest in the fork, and has really picked up on it in the past couple of weeks. I was planning on ordering the Paul Revere set from Amazon, but just haven't gotten around to it Need to get on that!

@winniebee: @Mrsbells: The mess. That's what holds me back! We did it once, and I couldn't handle food flying everywhere.

@winniebee: Yes, I'm worried this will be an excellent item to send overboard. And since we have a chihuahua who circles the high chair, like a great white shark circling its prey, I'm somewhat worried about him being hit by cutlery.

@scg00387: Wow! At 6 months B was just learning to sit up unassisted for long periods at a time.

@littlek: we just started solids but I figured why not! I load it with mash for him and he takes it and shoves it in his mouth. Sometimes it ends up on the floor and he uses his hands. My dog is usually hoping it'll fall

Every time I try (because she snatches the spoon from me) she holds the spoon upside down and everything falls out...so I've stopped. But I guess the mess is part of learning and I should let her try it more (she's 13 months).

Spoon at 12 months and fork at 13 months--he mostly plays with them and uses his hands to feed himself most of the time.

@littlek: let's just say that yogurt became shampoo last week. i wish we had a dog to clean up the mess!!!!!!!!!!

We did at about 10.5 months. She usually sees it more as a toy than a tool though. When I put food on it, it immediately goes flying. Sometimes she will hold the fork with one had and pick up the food with the other hand to eat. LOL. She does watch us use them though so I know it's processing.

This is the progress set, so a smaller set and then a set for an older toddler/child. You can buy them separately, but I was going to get the whole thing since its cheaper this way and I'm not sure if he'll take to one size over another.

We just introduced a spoon at 10 months. We gave her a beaba silicone spoon and she loves playing with it and putting the handle part in her mouth. She hasn't quite gotten the grasp of feeding herself but at least it's a start!

@winniebee: Our dogs have stopped eating their regular food. And they have gotten fat!!

@littlek: bahaha it has gotten to the point where sometimes I have to put our dog in another room. Sigh.

@regberadaisy: Its seriously a scene out of Shark Week... I expect to see their eyes roll back when they go in to get the dropped food.. LOL

@regberadaisy: So this thread is old, but I thought is let you know I did pick up that set of silverware from Amazon and my son loooves it. He's really doing well with the fork and spoon. And the infant set is really small, so I don't think it's necessary. The child set is perfect for him.

On and off since 6 months, most meals since 10 months. We Love the shirt bumpy Nuby spoons and sporks. Walmart has a generic Parents Choice set that's the same.

@BananaPancakes: thanks!! I think I'm going to be picking that up soon.

@BananaPancakes: Someone bought us this and it's still in the box! I will have to break this out and have LO start using them.

@mrsjazz: Well that's convenient! Hope she loves them as much as my kiddo does. He really thinks he's hot stuff with that fork.
