What were the cues that your kidlet was ready to switch from size 1 (slow flow) bottle nipples to size 2 (medium flow)? Did you just follow the nipple month suggestions (+0 months, +3 months, etc.)?
DD is 4 months ish and we just bought size 2 nipples today. Wondering when to switch. I didn't pay attention to the packaging with DS and didn't move to size 2 until 6 months+.

Never. We used 1s until she dropped the bottle.

We never made a switch until she was fussing with her bottle around 7 months. We actually went straight to size 3. It took her a few days to adjust but it was much better for her.

We also switched around 5 months. LO wasn't finishing her bottles during the day, and, based on how easily distracted she was while nursing, I thought she was probably bored and the Level 1s were taking too long. As soon as we switched to Level 2s, she was finishing her bottles again.

6 months. She started fussing and it would take way too long to feed her. @9 mo. we're still using level 2 with no plans on switching.

@autumnlove: Lol- definitely! And she would play with the nipple--like, she would flick it and pinch it. So when she started doing the same things to me . . . It was time for a new plan!

It was taking E 40 minutes to finish her bottle, so we bumped her up to the medium flow ones and now it's 10-15 min. She's doing great with them. She's 14-15ish weeks old
eta: she was also sucking so hard on the slow nipple that it was frequently collapsing inward and getting stuck.

Haven't yet. I think if you're doing a combo of ff & bf you'd want to keep it slow-flow to mimic the breast.

We switched when his ped suggested cereal in the bottle to help with reflux, otherwise we would still be on level 1.

I stuck with the level one nipple for the entire year. As LO was more efficient, it took him less time to drink.

We switched following the packaging guidelines. DD was clearly ready to move up each time we transitioned her. She would get to a point where she was clearly frustrated with her bottles, and switching nipples would do the trick every time. Just before one year she started actively preferring the much faster flow from her sippy cups, so that transition was easy as well.
