I never worried about actual choking with cheerios. Anything with a hole in it shouldn't present an airway problem. I would offer them early but not handfuls at a time because they don't dissolve as well as puffs or something.

They definitely ate them before they had teeth, since they didn't get any until 10 1/2 months! I think it was around 7 or 8 months. We gave them Puffs first since they kind of dissolve in your mouth, but after a week or two of that, they were doing fine and we gave them Cheerios.

We did puffs early on, but I ddin't get around to buying cheerios until after he turned on. No fear, just was always buying puffs. He had those at six/seven months? He was an early teether tho~

My LO ate cheerios and chex from about 7/8 months and on. He showed a preference for the chex so that's what we stuck with! Our ped is a big fan due to the high iron content!

I think they are ready when they have a pincer grip; for my kids around 8 months.
