I haven't been and a couple of weeks ago, my supply went down. I got it back up, but now it's happened again just because two nights in a row, DH gave a bottle and i only pumped the second night. I also gave a bottle a couple of times during the day this past week when we were out and I didn't pump to compensate. I guess I am learning that the "break" I get from DH giving a bottle, or the convenience of it when we are out during the day, is not really much of a break or convenience because I still have to pump! I am pumping now in an effort to get my supply back up, sigh.

Every time LO gets a bottle, I pump. Because of the reasons you listed, giving LO a bottle doesn't mean I get a break, it just means I am not the one feeding LO.

i guess the convenience of it today was that he woke up when we were shopping and he was hungry, so i was able to whip out a bottle and feed him while i was just standing over him in his stroller in the store....just gotta be more vigilant about the compensation pumping.

Every time. Not at the exact same time. For example if she gets a bottle while we are out and about I wait until we get home I pump. But if I don't pump for every bottle feed my supple definitely takes a hit.

Yes every time for the most part, she only gets a bottle when she is away from me though. So in that case, I have to pump since I hadn't nursed her recently.

Yep. I do like @Bao: though... P only gets a bottle if she's staying with a sitter and then I have to pump anyways to relieve engorgement.

For the most part, just to keep up supply. I didn't in early days because I guess I wanted a break but now I'm more careful about it.

Yep, especially now. Before 6 months, she nursed so much it didn't matter if skipped pumping when she took a bottle. Now I feel like EVERYTHING affects my supply, so pumping it is!

This is why I just decided to BF anywhere/anytime- to escape having to pump. I despise pumping. It made me get a lot more comfortable BFing at inconvenient places/times. i just cover up and make it work so that I don't have to go home and pump....And you are exactly right- it's NOT a break!

@PrincessBaby: i did that in the early weeks before i started pumping, and i discovered i am not at all uncomfortable BFing in public. It's just EASIER to give a bottle when i am out because i don't have my couch, my pillow, my quiet room. I do BF when we are in the movie theatre, but when we are shopping and walking about, so much easier to whip out a bottle. plus i was in the habit of pumping a bottle every morning just to build a stash and i figured we gotta start using them! oh well, i just will have to think about each bottle we give and decide - do i want to pump later or BF now?

another reason/time we give bottles is because i am still working on my dissertation so on the weekends i get out of the apt to a coffee shop to get some work done for a few hours, but then i know i have to come and pump.
