Just got off the phone with my insurance and any electric pump is covered in full.
I had a Ameda Purely Yours with my first and I was happy with it. It seems to work just fine but I sometimes wonder if the motor was starting to die towards the end causing my lower output.
If you had your choice of any double electric, which would you get?
I would be pumping 2-3x a day, 5 days a week, minimum and working out of the house full time.

Does it cover rental of a hospital grade pump? I loved my medala Lactina. Downside is that it's pretty heavy but it works so well

@locavore_mama: I got the amada PY free from my insurance but I purchased the medela PISA before I went back to work. I got way more output with my PISA.

I have both the PISA and the Freestyle. hate the PISA, love the Freestyle.
I was also starting to wonder if the motor was dying because I was having lower output--so I called customer service and they sent me a brand new pump. But apparently, it was just my supply. =(

@pinkcupcake: it does! How does your insurance work with rentals? Do you keep it until you're done pumping?

@locavore_mama: There's the whole portable/motility issue (I'm an EPer, so that's really important to me). But in my case, I always got more out with the Freestyle.
Everyone's boobs respond differently to different pumps I guess, but the Freestyle has this interesting vibration action going on that makes my output higher.
When I was wondering about the motor, I got out my PISA again and I got way, way less with it. And that was a brand new PISA that my insurance provided.

@locavore_mama: well, my rental was almost two years ago (!!) before ACA. My insurance was awesome - I think I paid like $10 for a year of renting.

I just got a Medela personal and like it! The pump itself is loud but I love how compact it is! I've used Pisa and symphony before

I really like my freestyle. I don't know how people do it if they're chained to the wall and a giant bag.

whoa! So the freestyle is powered only by battery? I assume this is a rechargeable battery? Does it last a full work day of pumping? Does it come with a outlet plug for backup?
Kinda awesome that I can use it in the car for road trips...

Love my freestyle, it's so compact and portable. It's a rechargeable battery...I pump 3-4x a day for 20 mins each time and it lasts many days.

Definitely Medela PISA. Never tried the freestyle though.
But I got an Ameda purely yours for free through insurance, and I had an old Medela that I bought when I first had Noelle... and the Medela felt so much more powerful and more efficient at getting milk out (even though it was 2 years older!). It held up strong pumping through two kids.

I got a hygeia free from insurance. Worked great, closed system so you can resell, reuse or give back to the company and they'll recycle it. There is one with an internal battery but I didn't have that. I got a battery pack and car adapter too.

@locavore_mama: the battery is charged by you plugging the whole thing up with a cord to an outlet, just like a regular pump. So you don't have to remove the battery or anything.
I usually pump in the morning at home while it's plugged up, unless I'm running late (then I dry my hair while I'm pumping). Then I pump at work once and in the car on the way home once without recharging. And then Pump again at night plugged in (I'm an EPer). I have pumped 4 times consecutively without recharging but that's kind of pushing it, because I pump a long time.
