We're having a difficult time transitioning to a straw/sippy cup from a bottle. We have half a dozen different types of straw/sippy cups and have had no luck thus far. LO takes the cup and examines it and when she sees that it's not a bottle she hands it right back to DH!
Which type of cup did your LO first successfully drink milk from?

This was the first cup L really got the hang of and loved. and I LOVE it too. It's awesome and hardly leaks and yea.

We went straight to straw cups, practicing when we introduced water with solids. The playtex lil gripper straw cups.

@mrsjyw: We have a playtex lil gripper and last night was the first time she ever successfully drank water out of it! Did you offer both water and milk in the lil grippers?

Same as @mrsjyw...still her favorite straw cup. I always offer water and milk in them, she looked at me like I was crazy the first few times I offered her milk in it, but she got over it after a week or so.

@lawbee11: I know your question wasn't directed at me, but I started off with warm milk, because that was what he was used to drinking from boobs. I also offered room temp water. Milk was for immediately after naps and right before bed, water was anywhere in between.

@lawbee11: Yep! We started with water and transitioned to milk. I think we gave breastmilk in the straw cup a few times. But usually it was just nursing and/or bottles for bmilk. Then after we weaned we just switched to regular almond milk (no heating) in the straw cup and he'll take either/or out of any straw cups.

@emg86: I would love to avoid a sippy cup altogether so I'm going to order more of the Playtex ones and hope that she'll take milk out of it!
@.twist.: Thanks! I think we're going to need to heat the milk at first, too. She took ice water last night, though.

@.twist.: Did you cut bottles cold turkey? That's what our ped suggested doing. But so many of her calories still come from BM/WCM because she's just now getting into solids, so I'm worried about her refusing to drink it.

@lawbee11: He would never take a bottle to begin with. I stressed for a while because my plan was to STOP BFing, no exceptions and he wasn't really into it at first. But, I kept offering it each time and eventually he just did it. The warm milk really helped entice him.

so we are ALMOST successful in our weaning process. He took 8 ounces of milk out of a straw cup today and yesterday. I consider straw a success. He freaked out b/c he loves routine, so even though this cup is essentially a bottle, it helped "break" him of his addiction and then he was more open to other cups. Good luck , it took us about 6 weeks to successfully get into a strawcup routine.

@lawbee11: C loves drinking water from a straw cup. Any straw cup will do when we're out, but at home, we use the take and toss. Won't take milk from a straw cup though. Bottles only. Sigh.

We are having a tough time weaning off bottles, too. B can drink from his Zoli without issue, and will happily drink cold milk from it, but he is still super attached to his bottles. For now, we are still giving bottles first thing in the morning and right before bed.

@Mrs. Lion: We have some take & toss sippy cups and they are by far the easiest to clean. We haven't had much luck with her taking them, though.
@OpinionsLikeKittens: Oh man I hope it doesn't take 6 weeks. She's about to move up to the toddler room so we're supposed to be bottle weaning her ASAP.
@rahlyrah: I wouldn't mind keeping bottles for morning and before bed, but I think for daycare purposes we're going to have to cut them completely.

Zoli and Safe Sippy Cups, which are metal, not plastic.
Also, mine are 14.5 months and still get 2 bottles a day. I'm not too worried about it, have lots of time to get them off it!

@lawbee11: i just refused to use anything else haha i didnt want to give him any bottle like sippy cups..i didn't see the point (i figured he might as well just use a bottle) .we just kept trying until one day i saw he could do it. After that i just didnt offer bottles anymore. He took another couple months to master the straw cup, but once he did we got rid of sippy cups completely.
ETA at 12 months he wasnt drinking from a cup at all and by 13 months he was completely weaned. It took about 2 weeks, and i kept the bedtime bottle because i was scared to put him to bed without it (thinking he would wake up hungry) turns put that was never issue. He could have given up the bottles after the first 2 weeks.

@lawbee11: We switched to the Take and Toss after she started using one regularly at daycare. That's pretty much all we use now (besides just regular cups).

Take and Toss Straw cups. it was the only thing he would drink milk from for the longest time. We've now switched to the Munchkin click lock straw cups.

Take & Toss sippys and Playtex Training Time Straw Cup.
We still use Take & Toss sippys at home for milk, and Take & Toss straw cups for smoothies. I just got him a Zoli for water and he loooves it!
